Someone Is Rebuilding the Entire GTA 6 Map in Minecraft, One Block Per Metre

+5 XP for Sharing

A Minecraft project led by builder Sway for You is recreating the estimated GTA 6 map at one block per metre, built on the mapping community’s research. Two versions exist, Mount Kalaga will not fit under the height limit, and it is not downloadable yet.

Quick take
  • The project uses a strict 1:1 scale: one Minecraft block stands for one metre of Leonida.
  • There are two versions, a newer full-map build with updated terrain and an older, more detailed Vice City build with far more finished buildings.
  • Minecraft’s height limit means Mount Kalaga cannot be represented at its estimated in-game height.
  • The map is not available for download or on a public server yet, and the team is recruiting experienced builders.

One Block Per Metre, the Whole State

The GTA 6 mapping community has spent three years identifying real buildings in trailer frames and pinning them to an estimated map. Now someone is building that map, physically, in Minecraft. The project is led mainly by a builder going by Sway for You, and a new video tour by community member Sao walks the whole thing from the peak of Mount Kalaga down to the towers of Vice City. The scale is the headline: one Minecraft block represents one metre in GTA 6, so distances, road lengths and building footprints all sit where the community’s research says they should.

That research is the foundation rather than a garnish. The mapping effort has identified hundreds of real-world buildings from trailers and screenshots and worked out where their in-game versions sit, and the Minecraft build inherits those positions directly. When the tour drives the short stretch from downtown to the beach, it is tracing the same geography our own interactive map documents, block by block.

Two Maps and One Problem Called Mount Kalaga

There are two versions of the project, and the split says a lot about how fast the source material moves. The newer version covers the full estimated map with updated coastline shape and elevation data. The older version is less current but far more developed, with a substantially larger number of finished buildings, especially around Vice City and Vice Beach. Anyone who has maintained a fan project through this marketing cycle will recognise the dilemma: keep polishing the old canvas or redraw it every time Rockstar releases thirty new seconds of footage.

The terrain has limits the game does not. Minecraft’s build height cannot accommodate Mount Kalaga at the full height the community estimates for it, so the mountain sits visibly squashed, and Sao notes the elevation data for the whole northern map is incomplete and possibly wrong. He models the peak on Table Rock in North Carolina, matching its summit and drop to a postcard image from the marketing material. The terrain holds one more curiosity: some deep, unnatural cuts in the landscape are artefacts of how the community map encodes tunnel elevations, which is itself a quiet prediction that the finished game has tunnels running under those spots.

From Vice Beach Hotels to the Port Gellhorn Raceway

The tour reads like a roll call of our locations database. Ambrosia has a factory, a residential area and a main street. Port Gellhorn gets its town, a refinery and port area, and the Port Gellhorn International Raceway. The Vice City coast carries a golf course, a hospital island and a Bal Harbour island, and Sao points out a private airfield up the coast plus Winewood Beach and Watson Bay further along. The golf course is noticeably larger in the newer version, which he takes as the better read of the final game.

Vice Beach is where the older build shows off. The Ocean Drive strip has its hotels, beach vegetation and lifeguard towers in place, along with the Jade Ocean condominium tower, which the team built before the community worked out there is a helipad on the real roof. Comparing the recreation against the real Ocean Drive, Sao estimates GTA 6 keeps roughly one third of the real street’s hotels, a compression ratio worth remembering every time someone calls the map 1:1 with Miami. Out in the Keys, Goose Key’s airfield carries two runways even though a sign in leaked material calls it a regular airport, and he reads the spare runway as room for commercial and military traffic, with a smaller strip near Watson Bay pencilled in as smuggler territory.

Not Downloadable Yet, and That Is Deliberate

Here is the part nobody in the comments wants to hear: you cannot play it. The map is not available for download and there is no public server, because the project is still a construction site. Sway for You is actively recruiting builders who know their way around tools like Axiom and WorldEdit, which is the Minecraft equivalent of a studio staffing up for production. Foliage is also largely absent, and Sao points out that trees and taller hills will eventually block many of the long sightlines the tour enjoys, including the clean view of Mount Kalaga from Capri.

The project joins a productive stretch for fan cartography, after the satellite viewer and the route planner turned the community map into working software. A walkable Minecraft build is the most literal version of that idea yet, and it arrives 32 days before the real thing makes every estimate checkable.
