Rockstar's HD Universe reimagining of Miami covers the Atlantic coast of southeast Leonida, sweeping through South Beach, Ocean Beach, Crosstown, Little Haiti, and Little Havana. Overview

Vice City is the county seat of Vice-Dale and the primary urban setting of GTA VI. Rockstar’s HD Universe reimagining of Miami covers the full Atlantic coast of southeast Leonida, including South Beach, Ocean Beach, Crosstown, and the cultural neighborhoods of Little Haiti and Little Havana.

Vice City sits inside Vice-Dale County on the Leonida map.

Rockstar has put a number on the city. Rob Nelson told creators at the Extended Look preview that Vice City itself is twice the size of Los Santos in GTA V, and that Vice City with its surrounding suburbs is around eleven times the size of Los Santos and its surrounds. The streets are deliberately narrower than GTA V’s, with lanes closer to real scale, and Rob said traffic density is crazy compared to previous games. Creators who played the demo describe squeezing through traffic, cars parked along kerbs, construction sites, crowded pavements and people waiting at bus stops, and the design consequence that escaping the police on foot through alleys is sometimes the better option in the city. Tow trucks attend breakdowns and street fights cause traffic jams. Cars now have working indicators, and highway signs note that turn signals are required in Leonida.

The skyline is branded with in-universe companies. The finale of the Extended Look takes place at the opening party for Megamundo HQ, a parody of the Spanish-language network Telemundo, in a tower where a firefight breaks out. The mapping community places that scene on the southern Pegassi tower, with Pegassi tower north still under construction beside it and the Sorrento and Tesoro towers in view. Fans first saw the bases of the Pegassi towers in the Ultimate Edition screenshots and read them as the game’s answer to Eclipse Towers. Screenshots also show Pegassi Suites and Pegassi Residences condos alongside a Redwood Suites residence branded by the in-game cigarette company, a contrast creators read as a joke about the wealth gap between districts.

Real-World Inspiration

Vice City is most often compared to Miami, Florida. The real Miami is a subtropical port metropolis on Biscayne Bay, known for its Cuban heritage, glass condo skyline, and role as the gateway to Latin America.

Appearances

Vice City is confirmed by Rockstar Games in Newswire location copy, both trailers, published screenshots and the Extended Look, which is set mostly in the city. The footage opens at the Venture Apartments in Rockridge, moves to a second floor apartment in Crosstown, and runs through a police chase across Vice Beach and the Venetian islands, the pickup of bank robber Raul Bautista and a montage around Bayside, and a rooftop bar named Effluvia whose view takes in the bay. Lucia base jumps from a tower for a panoramic look at the city, Starfish Island from the original Vice City appears around twelve minutes in, a large cruise ship sits out on the water, and Leonida City Tours buses, Manatees sportswear, the Lickety Split ice cream parlour and a neon Cortez club sign fill out the streets. The mapping community has matched many of these shots to real Miami blocks, including the rooftop terrace of 111 Lincoln Drive.

Trivia

As a city in the GTA VI map, Vice City is part of Rockstar's wider effort to make Leonida feel like a real place rather than a static set of mission triggers. Expect dynamic events, ambient pedestrians, and small story moments tied to the surroundings.
