Seven leaked names hint at towns and districts Rockstar has still not shown. Sundown, Lake Leonida and Yorktown have the strongest supporting evidence.
- Sundown, Copperhead, Lake Leonida, Seaview, St. Joseph, Red Hill and Yorktown all appeared in leaked material without ever showing up in Rockstar’s official trailers or screenshots.
- Yorktown is the only leaked location currently supported by an in-world road sign, placing it across a bridge from Port Gellhorn.
- Every name still has to survive the gap between the 2022 pre-alpha build and the finished game, where Rockstar routinely renames, merges or removes locations.
- The strongest three by evidence today are Sundown, Lake Leonida and Yorktown. Copperhead, Seaview and St. Joseph remain hard to define.
What the 2022 Leak Actually Showed
The 2022 GTA 6 development leak contained references to locations that Rockstar Games has still not formally introduced. Names including Sundown, Copperhead, Lake Leonida, Seaview, St. Joseph, Red Hill and Yorktown appeared in leaked footage, debug labels or community reconstructions of the unfinished map.
Some names were connected to roads, activities or environmental features, while others appeared with almost no context. They may represent towns, districts, individual businesses or locations that were renamed or removed during development. None should be considered confirmed for the finished game unless Rockstar shows it in official material.
What “Leaked” Really Means at This Stage
The 2022 leak came from a pre-alpha build. Every one of these names was pulled from work-in-progress files that Rockstar had no intention of shipping in that state. Studios routinely rename locations mid-production, merge one district into another, or cut something entirely once the story lands somewhere different.
Red Dead Redemption 2 renamed towns and split entire regions between its earliest builds and the finished game. GTA 5 shifted whole activities between neighbourhoods during development. Treat every entry below as a starting point for what Rockstar was building around 2021 to 2022, not as a promise about what the disc will contain.
Leaked Names and Their Likely Inspirations
- Sundown → likely inversion of Sunrise, Florida, a Broward County city west of Fort Lauderdale.
- Copperhead → the venomous copperhead snake native to the American Southeast. Fits a rural, backwoods setting.
- Lake Leonida → a fictional cousin of Lake Okeechobee, the giant inland lake in south Florida.
- Seaview → a placeholder-sounding coastal name; no strong single inspiration. May have been a temporary label.
- St. Joseph → nods to historic St. Joseph and modern Port St. Joe on Florida’s Gulf Coast.
- Red Hill → the Red Hills region straddling the Florida and Georgia border, known for pine forests and hunting estates.
- Yorktown → shares its name with several US towns, most famously the Virginia site linked to the Revolutionary War. In-game it likely just signals “old town on the water.”
Sundown

Sundown appears to be one of the more substantial leaked locations. References reportedly include Sundown Beach and several separate Sundown Tarmac labels, suggesting a coastal settlement with a paved driving, racing or aviation area.
One possible inspiration is Sunrise, Florida, a city in Broward County west of Fort Lauderdale. Sunrise is home to the Sawgrass Mills shopping complex and sits beside the Everglades, making it a plausible match for an urban area north of Vice City. Rockstar may have reversed the name from Sunrise to Sundown as a simple satirical joke. The meaning of tarmac remains unclear. It could describe a drag strip, runway, racetrack or large paved area used during a mission. Until the location appears in official footage, Sundown’s position and exact purpose remain uncertain.
Copperhead
Copperhead is mentioned in connection with a car hangout, which could point to a rural meet-up location, roadside business or small town associated with Leonida’s vehicle culture. The name itself evokes the venomous copperhead snake found across the eastern United States.
A backwoods location would fit GTA 6’s broader portrayal of rural Leonida. Rockstar has officially shown wetlands, industrial communities and wilderness beyond Vice City, so a snake-named settlement or bar would not feel out of place. There is not enough evidence to identify Copperhead as a complete town. It might be the name of a district, garage, bar or informal gathering point rather than a marked settlement on the final map.
Lake Leonida
Lake Leonida was initially understood as the name of GTA 6’s large inland lake. Later official material complicated that interpretation by associating One-Eyed Willie’s Mod Shop with Lake Leonida, which could mean the name also applies to a nearby town or wider region.
The clearest real-world comparison is Lake Okeechobee and the town of Okeechobee on its northern shore. That part of Florida is associated with cattle ranching, fishing, rodeos and small rural communities. A similar GTA 6 region could contrast with Ambrosia’s sugar industry on another side of the lake. Rockstar may use Lake Leonida for both the body of water and the surrounding area, just as real locations often share names. Another possibility is that the lake itself has a different final name and Lake Leonida refers specifically to a settlement.
Seaview
Seaview is one of the least detailed names recovered from the leaked material. The available reference reportedly concerns a self-injury event, which reveals nothing useful about the location’s size, appearance or position.
Its name suggests a coastal district, marina community or waterfront town. It could sit within greater Vice City, along Leonard County’s coastline or farther north in a separate part of Leonida. Without a road sign, recognisable landmark or official screenshot, it is impossible to place Seaview confidently. The name could also have been a temporary label used during development.
St. Joseph
St. Joseph is associated with a marina-water reference, making it more likely to be a coastal or waterfront location. The name may draw from Florida’s historic St. Joseph and the modern community of Port St. Joe on the Gulf Coast.
The original St. Joseph briefly became one of Florida’s largest settlements during the 1830s. Disease, fire and a hurricane devastated the community within a few years, leaving a history that would fit Rockstar’s interest in forgotten towns and regional tragedy. There is no evidence that GTA 6 will reproduce that history directly. St. Joseph may simply be a marina, small Gulf Coast town or development name unrelated to the real settlement beyond its name.
Red Hill

Red Hill and Red Hill Forest reportedly appear as separate references, giving the location more context than several other leaked names. The likely inspiration is Florida’s Red Hills region near the Georgia border, known for pine forests, rolling land, historic estates, hunting and equestrian culture. That environment would add terrain not normally associated with flat southern Florida.
It could also connect Red Hill with northern Leonida or the neighbouring state of Gloriana, if Rockstar has created a fictional region inspired by southern Georgia. Rockstar has officially revealed Mount Kalaga National Park, so some of the forested northern territory may already be represented there. Red Hill could be a district within that broader region rather than another major destination.
Yorktown
Yorktown is supported by more than an isolated debug label. The name reportedly appeared on a road sign in the leaked footage near a gas station, indicating that it was intended to be a recognised destination within the road network.
Community mapping projects have placed Yorktown across a bridge from Port Gellhorn. Some theories identify it as a military location comparable to Fort Zancudo in GTA 5, although the road sign alone does not confirm a military base. Yorktown could be a town, military district or name used for both. Its connection to Port Gellhorn makes it one of the easier leaked locations to integrate into the known map, but Rockstar has not yet revealed it officially.
Where Each Name Might Fit the Confirmed Map

Rockstar has already shown Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, Grassrivers and Mount Kalaga National Park. That gives the leaked names a real geography to slot into, at least on paper.
- Sundown reads most naturally as a north-of-Vice-City metro area, with Sundown Beach on the coast and Sundown Tarmac as a nearby airstrip or track.
- Yorktown is the one place we can almost place on the current map. Community reconstructions put it across a bridge from Port Gellhorn, in what would be northeast Leonida.
- Red Hill fits best as a district inside or bordering Mount Kalaga National Park, or on the northern frontier with Gloriana.
- Lake Leonida is its own inland region and could carry both the lake and a lakeside town. Ambrosia sits on one side of it; a Lake Leonida settlement could sit on another.
- Seaview and St. Joseph are the easiest to slot in as small coastal fill anywhere between the Keys and the Gulf-facing side of the map.
- Copperhead reads as rural in-between: a hangout, a stretch of highway or a small unincorporated area rather than a signposted town.
None of this is confirmation. It is the most economical way to place seven leaked names on top of the map Rockstar has actually shown, so readers do not have to hold every rumour in their head at once.
Which GTA 6 Leaked Locations Are Most Credible?
Sundown, Lake Leonida and Yorktown currently have the strongest supporting context. They are tied to multiple labels, official product information or visible road signage rather than appearing only as unexplained names. Copperhead, Seaview and St. Joseph remain much harder to define. Red Hill has repeated references but may have changed as Rockstar developed Mount Kalaga and the northern portion of Leonida.
// Leaked-location credibility ledger
Every leaked town or location scored on the strength of the evidence currently in the public record. Confidence is our editorial call, not a Rockstar confirmation.
| Location | Evidence mentioned | Likely type | Confidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sundown | Beach and tarmac labels | Town or district | Medium |
| Copperhead | Car-hangout reference | Rural location or business | Low |
| Lake Leonida | Leaked name and official shop location | Lake region or town | Medium |
| Seaview | Isolated event reference | Coastal district | Low |
| St. Joseph | Marina-water label | Waterfront town | Low |
| Red Hill | Location and forest labels | Northern rural region | Medium |
| Yorktown | Road sign in leaked footage | Town or military area | Medium |
These names came from an unfinished version of GTA 6, so even the strongest entries may appear differently at launch. Rockstar could reveal them in future trailers, rename them or leave them out of the final game entirely.
