Will GTA 6 Include Cuba, the Bahamas and Other Islands?

+5 XP for Sharing

Rockstar has only confirmed Leonida. Cuba, the Bahamas, the Bermuda Triangle and Gloriana are all rumour or lore-only until footage proves otherwise.

Quick take
  • Rockstar has confirmed Leonida, Vice City and the Leonida Keys. No official material shows Cuba, the Bahamas or any foreign island as playable.
  • The strongest Cuba clue is Raul Bautista’s Cuban imagery, which reads as Miami cultural background rather than proof of an explorable country.
  • A Bahamas-style island is the easiest offshore location to add technically, since it fits Leonida’s existing coastal economy and criminal world.
  • Gloriana appears on licence plates, but that only proves a neighbouring state exists in lore, not that it is on the map.

What Rockstar Has Actually Confirmed

Rockstar Games has not confirmed that Cuba, the Bahamas or any other foreign island will be playable in GTA 6. Official information currently identifies Leonida as the game’s main setting, including Vice City, the Leonida Keys and several regions inspired by different parts of Florida.

Rumours about additional islands are based on older development reports, comments attributed to industry insiders and details spotted in Rockstar’s promotional images. Those clues make offshore locations possible, but none proves that players will be able to leave Leonida in the finished game. For the full picture of the 2022 breach that started many of these rumours, see our GTA 6 leaks guide.

Why Players Think Cuba Could Appear in GTA 6

The strongest Cuba rumour came from gaming content creator Tyler McVicker, who claimed that part of Cuba would appear as a playable area. The same claim suggested that GTA 6 would involve drug trafficking, bank robberies and a time jump, although Rockstar has not supported those details publicly.

Fans found another possible connection in an official image featuring Raul Bautista on a boat. A cup visible in the scene appears to carry Cuban imagery, while Raul’s biography and surname have encouraged theories about his family background. This establishes a Cuban cultural connection more convincingly than it establishes a playable country. Vice City has always drawn heavily from Miami, where Cuban culture has shaped neighbourhoods, food, music and organised crime. Cuban flags and characters can therefore exist naturally inside Leonida without requiring Rockstar to create a separate island. The image should be treated as world-building unless stronger evidence emerges.

Project Americas Originally Had a Much Wider Scope

Project Americas reportedly imagined chases and set pieces stretching well beyond Leonida. Rockstar eventually pulled the scope back to a single state, but not every idea has to die at that point.Rockstar Games

GTA 6 was reportedly developed under the codename Project Americas. Reporting about the game’s early production claimed that Rockstar initially considered a much larger story involving multiple cities and locations influenced by North and South America. The concept was reportedly reduced as development continued, leaving the more focused Leonida setting shown in Rockstar’s official material.

Lucia and Jason replaced an earlier plan involving more protagonists, while Vice City became the centre of the game rather than one stop in a sprawling international map. The unanswered question is whether any smaller part of that original concept survived. Rockstar could have retained one offshore location for a limited story chapter, much like North Yankton in GTA 5 or Guarma in Red Dead Redemption 2. It could also reserve an island for a later GTA Online expansion instead of including it in the main open world.

The Bahamas May Fit Better Than Cuba

The Bahamas sit close to Florida and have long-standing travel, trade and cultural connections with Miami. Boats and aircraft regularly move between South Florida and the islands, making a fictionalised Bahamian destination easy to connect to GTA 6’s coastal world.

An island inspired by the Bahamas could support smuggling missions, boat races, private airstrips, luxury resorts and isolated criminal compounds. The region’s history also provides Rockstar with material involving offshore wealth, narcotics routes and wealthy visitors separated from the consequences of mainland life. Rumours have claimed that GTA 6 may feature three islands outside Leonida, including one inspired by the Bahamas. Rockstar has not confirmed that number, and there is no reliable public map showing three separate offshore territories. The Bahamas remain a plausible design choice, not an established part of the game.

The Boat and Aircraft Range Reality Check

A seaplane skimming past the Leonida Keys causeway with cargo ships, luxury boats and dozens of small offshore islets visible on either side, the exact playable ocean any Cuba or Bahamas trip would have to fit inside
The causeway, the seaplane and dozens of small islets show how far the playable ocean already reaches. Whether it reaches Cuba is a different question entirely.Rockstar Games

The offshore-island debate usually skips a practical detail: how far can you actually travel from the coast before the game stops you? In GTA 5, the playable ocean ended at an invisible boundary a few kilometres offshore, and any plane that flew far enough west or south hit the same wall. Every Cuba, Bahamas or Bermuda Triangle theory has to survive that constraint.

Rockstar has three realistic ways to deliver a foreign island in GTA 6, listed below in ascending order of ambition.

1. A cutscene or scripted vehicle transition

The safest option is a Guarma-style transition, where a boat cutscene or forced flight moves the player from Leonida to a separate loaded map. The player never sees the ocean between the two places. This is cheap, story-safe and easy to gate to a single chapter.

2. A fast-travel loading screen

Cayo Perico in GTA Online used a menu-driven fast travel and a short loading screen instead of a real journey. GTA 6 could do the same for a Bahamas-style island or a Bermuda Triangle mission zone, offering it as a bookable destination through the game’s existing services.

3. A larger playable ocean

The most ambitious version is a genuinely wider playable sea with functional aircraft range, allowing a Cuba-style island to be visited by boat, seaplane or private jet without a loading screen. This is a major technical commitment. It would also change how Lucia and Jason’s day-to-day gameplay works, since long ocean travel needs meaningful content to survive playtesting.

The Bahamas fit option two best. Cuba, if it appears at all, is almost certainly option one. Option three would be the biggest technical leap Rockstar has ever attempted in an open-world game, and there is no leaked footage to support it.

The Real Miami, Cuba and Bahamas Crime Corridor

Sunset marinas, string-lit docks and idling go-fast boats. Vice City has always fed off the real geography of the Florida Straits, whether or not GTA 6 lets you cross it.Rockstar Games

The reason Cuba, the Bahamas and Miami keep coming up together is that they form one of the most heavily storied crime corridors in the real world. GTA 6 does not need to invent any of it. The context alone tells you why Rockstar keeps flirting with an offshore leg.

Why Vice City DNA Already Points Offshore

Real-world hooks in the Florida Straits that Rockstar can lift straight into Leonida, without stepping outside the state.

  • Cocaine Cowboys era

1980s Miami became the US point of entry for cocaine moved through the Caribbean, feeding the aesthetic Rockstar defined in the original Vice City.

  • Cuban expat networks

Little Havana and greater Miami are home to one of the largest Cuban communities in the world, historically tied to both politics and organised crime.

  • Bahamas offshore finance

Nassau and Freeport have functioned as offshore banking and shell-company hubs for decades, useful for laundering and cross-border business plots.

  • Go-fast boat culture

South Florida invented the modern smuggling speedboat, giving Rockstar every excuse it needs to build boat missions across the Straits.

  • Freelance airstrips

Remote strips across the Keys and Bahamian out islands still feed illicit aviation, mirroring the private-airstrip fantasy the series keeps returning to.

None of this requires Rockstar to ship Havana or Nassau as playable cities. All of it justifies stronger Cuban and Bahamian storytelling inside Leonida, which is very likely what most of the offshore chatter will actually cash out as.

Could the Bermuda Triangle Appear?

The Bermuda Triangle was reportedly named in material connected to the 2022 GTA 6 leak. The real-world area is commonly placed between Florida, Bermuda and Puerto Rico, making it geographically relevant to a game centred on a fictional version of Florida. Rockstar could use the concept as an ocean boundary, an in-game conspiracy or a collection of hidden events. Boats and aircraft might experience unusual weather or mechanical problems after travelling too far from the intended map. It could also exist only in radio discussions, internet pages or background stories.

A Bermuda Triangle reference would fit the series’ interest in UFOs, unexplained disappearances and conspiracy culture. However, a leaked name does not confirm that Rockstar created a fully explorable location or a dedicated mystery around it. If you want the broader picture of Rockstar’s conspiracy tradition, our SERA and failed rocket launches guide covers the same design pattern.

What Is Gloriana?

Gloriana is a possible neighbouring state referenced by licence plates seen in GTA 6 imagery. Their appearance has been compared with Georgia licence plates, leading to speculation that Gloriana may represent Rockstar’s version of Georgia. The plates prove only that another fictional state exists within GTA 6’s wider world.

Vehicles from neighbouring states are common in real life, and Rockstar can use them to make Leonida feel connected to a larger country without building that country beyond the map’s boundaries. A second state would significantly expand GTA 6, but there is currently no official evidence that Gloriana is physically connected to Leonida. It could remain background lore, become part of a future expansion or appear only during a restricted mission.

Which Offshore Location Is Most Likely?

A smaller island inspired by the Bahamas is arguably the easiest offshore location to integrate into GTA 6. It could be reached by boat or aircraft, support several missions and fit naturally within Leonida’s existing criminal economy. Cuba would require a larger narrative explanation, while Gloriana would involve extending the map north into another state.

Rockstar could include more than one of these ideas, but it could just as easily keep the entire playable world inside Leonida. Until official footage shows travel beyond the state, claims about Cuba, the Bahamas and additional islands should remain clearly marked as rumours. We will update this guide the moment Rockstar shows anything past the coastline.
