Base Jumping & Parachuting

Aerial sports are back: Eurogamer’s round-up of the Extended Look and IGN’s preview lists both base jumping and parachuting, trading GTA 5’s mountains for Vice City towers and open backcountry sky.

Overview

Both disciplines made Eurogamer’s list of activities spotted across the Extended Look and IGN’s preview, so jumping off things is officially back on the menu. The last time the series offered this was GTA 5, where Dom Beasley dragged Franklin out of planes and off dam walls for sport.

Leonida changes the geometry. Los Santos had Chiliad and a handful of towers; Vice City has a dense high-rise skyline on one side and flat, empty backcountry on the other, which splits the activity neatly into urban base jumps and chartered skydives.

Jumps, drops and landings

Expect the GTA 5 structure as a baseline: fixed launch points scored on landing accuracy, plus freefall drops from aircraft. Whether wingsuits make the cut is unknown, and nothing shown so far settles it either way.

One flat-state problem

Leonida follows Florida logic, so there is exactly one serious natural high point on the map: Mount Kalaga. Every other jump will owe its altitude to architecture or aviation.
