Shooting Range

Weapons training ranges appear on Eurogamer’s confirmed activity list, and they matter more than usual this time: Rob Nelson says auto-aim is gone, so range time is where free aim gets honed.

Overview

Of all the confirmations in Eurogamer’s round-up of the Extended Look and IGN’s preview, this is the quietest and arguably the most practical. Rockstar has removed auto-aim entirely, per Rob Nelson, which turns a place to practise from a novelty into something closer to required reading.

GTA 5’s Ammu-Nation ranges ran timed target drills per weapon class and paid out handling bonuses for medals. San Andreas went further back in 2004, with range time literally levelling weapon skill. Some blend of the two, tuned for the new free-aim combat and the reworked inventory seen in the Extended Look, is the sensible bet.

Gun country

Leonida parodies Florida, so expect its gun shops and ranges to arrive with the full Rockstar satire treatment. The weapons database tracks every firearm shown so far, and all of them need somewhere to be zeroed.
