GTA 6 Pre-Load Moves to November 10, the File Is 212GB and the Map Costs 99 Cents

+5 XP for Sharing

Rockstar’s Tuesday Newswire pulls pre-loading forward two days to November 10, midnight local on PS5 and 00:00 GMT worldwide on Xbox, confirms the download at up to 212GB, and puts a paper map of Leonida back on the table for 99 cents.

Quick take
  • PS5 pre-load opens at midnight local time on November 10; Xbox opens globally at 00:00 GMT the same day, which is the evening of November 9 across the Americas.
  • The pre-load file is up to 212GB depending on device, two gigabytes over last week’s tracker figure. Code-in-box copies still arrive November 12.
  • A printable cover art poster and map of Leonida goes up as a free download on November 19, with a double-sided physical version at $0.99 or free with any Rockstar Store order.
  • A new screenshot shows a packed beach on a causeway key, and the PlayStation Blog promises more GTA 6 information before launch.

Two Days Earlier, and on a Tuesday

Rockstar does not usually post on a Tuesday, and the Newswire note it put up on November 3 is short enough to read twice before the kettle boils. Digital pre-loading of GTA 6 starts on Tuesday, November 10, two days ahead of the November 12 date Rockstar’s own support page had carried since the summer. On PS5 the download opens at midnight local time in your time zone. On Xbox Series X and S it opens for the whole planet at once, at 12am GMT on November 10. Code-in-box copies, the ones with no disc inside, should reach retailers from November 12 as before, and the code works for pre-loading the moment it is redeemed.

Rockstar gave no reason for the move, so neither will we beyond the obvious: splitting a 212GB download across digital buyers on the 10th and box buyers on the 12th spreads the load on two store networks that are about to have the busiest week of their lives. One small house-keeping note for anyone double checking: as of this afternoon the Platforms and Editions support page still has the old November 12 sentence sitting one paragraph above the new November 10 one. The new one wins.

What Midnight GMT Means Where You Live

The two platforms have picked opposite philosophies and the difference is not academic. A PS5 owner in Auckland starts downloading at their own midnight; an Xbox owner on the same street waits until one in the afternoon. Flip it to the Americas and Xbox wins: 00:00 GMT is 7pm in New York and 4pm in Los Angeles on Monday evening, November 9, a full five to eight hours before the PlayStation window opens in those cities.

PS5 follows your store region’s midnight. Xbox is one global moment, 00:00 GMT on November 10.

Two reminders from the Rockstar Support FAQ that will save someone a wasted night. The PS5 only pulls the files automatically if auto-downloads are on and the console is either powered up or in Rest Mode, and the Xbox needs automatic updates enabled with the console on or in Sleep. A fully powered-down console downloads nothing. The pre-load can be started any time from the 10th up to launch, so missing the first minute costs you nothing except bragging rights.

212GB, Now Official

The number is 212GB, up to, depending on your device. That lands two gigabytes above the 210GB the PlayStation size tracker reported last week, which is as close as a tracker gets, and the “up to” covers the small platform-to-platform differences you would expect. Sony’s own PlayStation Blog post, published the same day by Tim Turi, puts it more bluntly: clear a minimum of 212GB on your PS5 before November 10. On a base PS5 that is close to a third of the usable drive. On a 512GB Series S it is more than half.

Rockstar’s phrasing was “ample space”, which is the politest way we have seen a publisher say move your other games now. The PlayStation post ends with a line worth filing: more information on GTA 6 is coming as we get closer to November 19. It does not say what. The obvious gap on Sony’s side is still the PS5 Pro: the game carries a plays-best-on-PS5 line in Sony’s marketing and not one frame-rate, resolution or mode detail has been published for either console, and a blog post that tells people to clear space and then says stay tuned is about as loud a hint as a platform holder gives.

The Map Comes Back, for 99 Cents

Buried at the bottom of the note is the line that got the loudest reaction. On November 19 Rockstar will add an official printable GTA 6 cover art poster and map of Leonida to its website as a free digital download. A double-sided physical version follows shortly after launch from the Rockstar Store, priced at $0.99 on its own or free with any other Rockstar Store purchase. For a series whose boxes carried a folded paper map through GTA 3, Vice City, San Andreas, 4 and 5, and then shipped GTA 6 as a code in a box with no disc and no map, that is a reversal, and a late one. Pre-orders opened in June. For five months the only paper map on sale was the one printed on the back of the 36 by 26 inch souvenir poster inside the $400 Goodtime State Vice City Collection, a box that famously does not contain the game.

Rockstar has not said it is responding to feedback, and we will not put the words in its mouth, but a dollar poster announced sixteen days before launch is not something that was sitting in the plan since June. Two things are still true after today. Nobody outside Rockstar has seen the full map, since the collector box product shots show the illustrated front and a cropped corner of the reverse, and a map Rockstar sells for 99 cents on launch day is still a map it is keeping back until launch day. Given how GTA 5’s leaked ahead of release, that looks deliberate. The free download does not arrive until the game does, which means no road-trip planning on the 18th.

One More Screenshot for the Pile

The note came with a new screenshot, and after more than a hundred official stills it still found something fresh to show. The angle is from a key in the middle of the causeway looking back at downtown Vice City: a small beach in the foreground with a volleyball net, a bar with nearly every chair taken, swimmers in the shallows, a yacht with people sprawled across the bow, and the oversized inflatable teddy bears from the trailers bobbing in the channel. A bus is crossing the causeway, there are helicopters in the sky, a tower under construction on the left, and the arena on the far shore. Our real Miami locations guide covers what that skyline is built from.

The crowd density is the detail. Beaches on a key under a motorway bridge are not a set piece, they are filler in most open worlds, and this one is as busy as the hero beach in the trailers. That is consistent with everything Rockstar has said about population scaling and it is the kind of thing you only notice when the shot is not trying to sell you anything.

The Calendar From Here

So the run-in now reads: Take-Two earnings on November 9, PS5 pre-loads at local midnight and Xbox pre-loads at 00:00 GMT on November 10, code-in-box copies and pre-loads from them on November 12, launch on November 19 with the free map download the same day, and the 99 cent physical poster shortly after. One more item from today sits in the reported column rather than the confirmed one. IGN and Pure Xbox both write that Rockstar has confirmed a midnight local launch on November 19 for both consoles, but the Newswire text does not say it and the official site still lists only the date, so our region-by-region unlock table stays labelled as reported until Rockstar prints an hour somewhere we can link to.
