Fans have matched the Extended Look to real Miami, shot by shot: Lucia’s apartment is a demolished block dated by its 2017 paint, the rooftop scenes sit on 111 Lincoln Drive, and Dexter’s condo building made it in.
- Within days of the Extended Look, mapping community analysts had geolocated nearly every scene in the 26-minute showcase to a real Miami counterpart.
- Lucia’s apartment building is real and demolished, found through a still-standing background building and dated by a paint scheme Google Street View last shows in January 2017.
- The rooftop scenes with Brian and Lori take place on the terrace of 111 Lincoln Drive, with a real mural by the artist D*Face sitting east of the building.
- Bay Harbor Islands made it in down to the bank branch, the police station and the Bay Harbor Club, the condo building known as Dexter Morgan’s apartment.
- Rockstar edits freely: a demolished Brickell car wash moved districts, two Overtown streets merged into one block, and the chase route teleports for the cameras.
How Fans Mapped Vice City to Miami
The Extended Look ran 26 minutes. The mapping community needed about a week to pin nearly every scene of it to a real Miami address. The heavy lifting came from Saukko of the GTA mapping project, who walked the whole showcase scene by scene, from the opening in Rockridge outside the Venture Apartments to the closing vista over downtown, matching in-game frames against satellite imagery and Street View. The results feed straight into the community map this site tracks.
Take a second to appreciate why that is even possible. Vice City is not inspired by Miami in the loose, vibes-first way Los Santos gestured at Los Angeles. Creators covering the geolocation work put it plainly: this city has a lot of buildings that are one-to-one recreations of real ones. Rockstar told press the city proper is twice the size of Los Santos, eleven times counting the suburbs, and it spent that budget on specificity. Real streets, real condo towers, real police stations, in some cases real buildings that no longer exist.
That last category is where this gets genuinely strange, so that is where we start.
The Apartment Block That No Longer Exists
Miami locals watched the shot of Lucia’s apartment and swore they knew the building. They drove around. Nothing. So Redditors and 4channers took the hunt to Google Maps, and the trick that cracked it was ignoring the apartment itself: they matched the still-standing building behind it, at roughly 419 NE 19th Street, right down to how the details are arranged. Once that anchored the camera, the truth about the foreground building surfaced. It is not there anymore. The current scan shows a vacant lot marked private property, with the demolition estimated by the researchers at late 2022 or early 2023.
Then it got better. Rewinding Street View, the building’s colours in recent years did not match the game at all. The imagery from January 2017 matches exactly. Sometime between January and May of 2017 the whole block was repainted, which means Rockstar modelled the building from reference gathered before that repaint. One demolished building, dated by its paint job to a nine-year-old version of itself, preserved in a game that launches November 19. If you want a fossil record of when this game’s Miami was photographed, it is standing in Lucia’s front yard.
The Rooftop at 111 Lincoln Drive
Every rooftop scene in the showcase is the same rooftop. The terrace where Brian and Lori host Jason and Lucia, drinks and bad decisions included, was matched by Saukko to the rooftop terrace of 111 Lincoln Drive in real life. It is one of the cleanest identifications in the whole exercise, because the terrace has a distinctive layout and the skyline behind it behaves exactly as the real sightlines say it should.
The corroborating detail is the kind of thing that makes this hobby addictive. East of the building in the game sits a large mural by D*Face, a real street artist, in the spot the real mural occupies. Rockstar did not just model the building its characters party on. It modelled the neighbours and the public art. When a fictional retiree pours you a drink in GTA 6, you can pull up the actual address, check the actual view, and find the actual mural over his shoulder. The line between location scouting and set dressing has stopped existing.
Bay Harbor, Down to the Police Station
One character-switch shot gave the community an entire neighbourhood. As the camera pulls out over the water, downtown sits in the background, the Leaf Links golf course on the right, and in front of it an island fans have read as Bay Harbor Islands since the 2022 leaks. The real place is an artificial island built on mangroves in 1947. The in-game version recreates its main street, Kane Concourse, with unnerving fidelity: the waterfront condos, the Bank of America branch, and the building at 1170 Kane Concourse, which Saukko notes was only built in 2002, so no one can claim Rockstar only photographed the art deco stuff.
The one ringer on the island is the police station. It matches the Indian Creek Village Police Station, which in real life mostly polices a country club, and it is so far the only building in the district that does not come from Bay Harbor itself. Rockstar needed a cop shop on the island and borrowed the neighbour’s. Everything else on that stretch has a deed and a real-world tax history.
The Dexter Building Made the Cut
Bay Harbor has one famous resident, and Rockstar kept his flat. The condo building known to television as Dexter Morgan’s apartment, the Bay Harbor Club, stands in the game in slightly modified form, and multiple creators zoomed straight in on it within days. Saukko’s match evidence is thorough: the same three windows and three balconies on the building’s end, the same staircase, the same palm placement, and the signature circular stairs present in both versions. The differences are real too, and worth being honest about: the in-game building is much shorter, a two-floor section cut to about a third of its real length, some metal railings are missing, and it does not face the coast the way the real one does.
Next door sits the stranger fact. The neighbouring condo matches the Bay Harbor Continental at 9881 East Bay Harbor Drive, which was demolished in 2018. Like Lucia’s block, it survives only in Rockstar’s reference photos, and in-game the two buildings appear to share a courtyard and pool. Whether any of this becomes a Dexter Easter egg, a costume, a cameo, a certain boat, is pure fan speculation, and Saukko labels it as such. The building being there at all is not speculation. It is measured.
Ocean Drive Keeps the Receipts
Street level is where the recreation stops being trivia and starts being funny. The showcase brawl happens on Ocean Drive, filmed by a bystander NPC, near the Hotel Cortez and Bobby Hurricanes on Shore Drive in Vice Beach. And the fight itself is a re-enactment: it recreates the real viral Miami altercation involving the streamer HSTikkyTokky and Jon Zherka, with the NPCs wearing the same clothes as the men in the original clip. Rockstar watched the same internet you did and put it in the game.

The references keep stacking. The clerk in the electronics store wears a shirt reading Ocean Beach in the exact Miami Vice title font. Jason’s character-switch shot sits on the Y City Hotel, matched to the W South Beach Hotel, which Saukko suspects becomes a safe house, a suspicion and nothing more. Even the airport scenes are specific: not a generic terminal but Signature Aviation’s private jet facility on the north side of the real airport, matched at the game’s Vice City International, with hangars that already appeared in the 2022 leaks.
Where Rockstar Edits the Real City
The copy is not slavish, and the edits are their own study. The car wash from the showcase stood in Brickell in real life. It has since been demolished, and the in-game version has moved districts entirely, far enough that Saukko could not place its new surroundings and suspects it now sits outside Vice City proper. The Overtown shootout block is a collage: the neighbourhood and church come from NW 4th Court in northern Overtown, while the houses come from a second NW 4th Court in southern Overtown, two real streets with the same name folded into one block. That is not laziness. That is an editor choosing the best takes.
The showcase itself cheats too, and the geolocation work exposes it. The big chase starts at the southern tip of Vice Beach and exits through the toll gates of the Venetian Islands, but the route between those points teleports repeatedly, movie magic for the cameras rather than one honest drive. The Flamingo Visitor Center appears with its real colour scheme flipped. The jet ski scene near Flagler Memorial Island faces east into what fans called a sunset until Saukko pointed out the game clock says sunrise. Trust the matches. Audit the editing.
The Match List and What Comes Next
Here is the roundup in one place, in-game spot against its real Miami counterpart, all sourced from the geolocation work above. Individual entity pages carry deeper notes per location, and the map holds the coordinates.
// Geolocated so far

| Overtown church block | Two NW 4th Courts, merged |
| Private jet terminal | Signature Aviation facility |
| Swamp visitor centre | Flamingo Visitor Center, recoloured |
| Vice City car wash | Demolished Brickell car wash |

What does the demolished-buildings pattern actually tell you? That the reference photography is old. The paint dating puts Lucia’s block at early 2017 or before, and one geolocation video repeats the claim that Rockstar sent scouts to Miami even before Red Dead Redemption 2 launched, alongside the long-running rumour of pre-production starting around 2015 or 2016. Both of those are secondhand and labelled so. The buildings are not. The unmatched frontier is the skyline: nobody has published real counterparts for the Pegasus, Sorrento or Tesor towers, the rooftop-pool scene from this page’s hero shot included. That is the next hunt. Bring Street View.
