PlayStation Store listings point to a midnight-local rollout that starts in New Zealand and reaches the US at 9pm Pacific on November 18, while an economist’s $1 billion sick-day estimate is shakier than the headlines suggest and Discord preps a Vice City makeover.
- Store listings show region-by-region midnight unlocks on November 19, with New Zealand first and one shared moment for the whole US: midnight Eastern, 9pm Pacific on November 18.
- The $1 billion sick-day figure traces to economist José García Montalvo, but follow-up reporting says the 1.5 million worker headcount should not be attributed to him and no study backs it.
- A Discord datamine by Wumpus Central points to a Vice City app theme, icon and font campaign codenamed Hexagon, set to start days before launch and still unannounced.
What Is Confirmed and What Is Reported
With under four weeks to go, the launch picture splits cleanly in two. Confirmed by Rockstar: the game arrives November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S, and digital preloads open at local midnight on November 12. Reported but not confirmed: everything about the hour it actually unlocks, a viral estimate about what the launch does to the US economy, and a Discord makeover hiding in the app’s code. This piece sorts the second pile.

The Rollout, Region by Region
Rockstar has not published an unlock schedule, but PlayStation Store listings across dozens of regions tell a consistent story: GTA 6 unlocks at midnight local time on Thursday, November 19, rolling around the planet region by region rather than flipping one global switch. New Zealand goes first. The United States gets a single shared moment, midnight Eastern, which lands on the evening of November 18 for most of the country: 11pm Central, 10pm Mountain, 9pm Pacific. Mexico and Central America close the rollout roughly 19 hours after it began.
// Reported unlock times
Per PlayStation Store listings. Not confirmed by Rockstar; listings can change.
| Region | Local unlock | In UTC |
|---|---|---|
| New Zealand | Midnight, November 19 | 11:00, November 18 |
| Australia east | Midnight, November 19 | 13:00, November 18 |
| Central Europe | Midnight, November 19 | 23:00, November 18 |
| UK and Ireland | Midnight, November 19 | 00:00, November 19 |
| US Eastern | Midnight, November 19 | 05:00, November 19 |
| US Pacific | 9pm, November 18 | 05:00, November 19 |
| Mexico | Midnight, November 19 | 06:00, November 19 |
Two practical notes. The unlock follows the region of your store account, not your console clock, so winding the system time forward does nothing. And the account region trick, buying through a New Zealand account to start up to 18 hours early, is already being discussed everywhere staggered launches are discussed; whether Rockstar blocks it or shrugs is a launch-night question nobody can answer yet. The full schedule lives in our release-date guide and will switch to official times the moment Rockstar publishes any.

The Billion-Dollar Sick Day, Audited
The viral launch-week number is $1 billion: the cost to the US economy of an estimated 1.5 million workers skipping work on November 19, as reported by the International Business Times and repeated by The Hill, Fox and half the internet. The calculation is credited to José García Montalvo, an economics professor at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona: take 1.5 million absences, assume average annual output of about $70,000 per US worker, and you arrive at roughly $1 billion of lost productivity in a day, concentrated among men aged 18 to 30, with the technology sector hit hardest. Montalvo himself calls it an academic projection rather than a forecast.
Here is the part nobody sharing the headline wants to hear: the audit trail is thin. A follow-up by the same outlet concedes that Montalvo’s original interview with Spanish broadcaster Cadena SER never gave a worker headcount, that the 1.5 million figure should not be attributed to him, and that no national study backs it. Fortune’s fact-check adds economist Victor Matheson’s scale correction, that $1 billion is about one thirty-thousandth of annual US GDP, and other coverage has noted the arithmetic works out closer to $400 million if you spread annual output over actual workdays. The sick day is real enough, Strauss Zelnick himself joked in April that plenty of people would call in unwell. The precision is not.
There is one tidy footnote: Insider Gaming points out that the $1 billion America supposedly loses almost exactly matches the operating cash flow Take-Two told shareholders to expect this fiscal year, with GTA 6 as the driver. The money does not vanish; it changes address.
Discord’s Hidden Vice City Makeover
The last launch-week item is sitting in Discord’s own code. Dataminer Wumpus Central found an unannounced campaign codenamed Hexagon in a Discord test build on October 6: a GTA 6 app icon, a Vice City-coloured client theme and a custom display-name font in the style of the series’ famous lettering, plus traces of a quest with an unnamed reward. Dates in the code run the promotion from November 17 for free users through December 8, with Nitro subscribers keeping the look until February 15, 2027; a separate preview account has since floated November 16, and the discrepancy is unresolved.
Discord scrubbed the references from the code within a day, which is usually what a real but unannounced deal looks like. Neither company has confirmed it, datamined plans do get cut, and no part of it says anything about a PC version, however hard people squint.
The Clock From Here
So the month ahead, as currently reported: review copies by the end of October, preloads from November 12, Discord possibly going neon from November 16 or 17, the Heat playing as Vice City on November 18, New Zealand unlocking that same evening in US time, and the rest of the world following at local midnight into November 19, with the Americas last. Rockstar has confirmed exactly two of those dates. The rest is the internet reading store listings and app code, which, a month out from the biggest launch in entertainment, is apparently how we find things out now.
