The Box Was Real: The $399.99 Vice City Collection Is Official, and Its Poster Hides the First Piece of the Leonida Map

On Thursday September 24, right in the 8 to 11am Eastern window Rockstar has used all autumn, the collector’s edition stopped being a rumour. Grand Theft Auto VI: The Goodtime State Vice City Collection is official, listed at $399.99 in the United States and $559.99 in Canada, limited to one per person, shipping November 19 and sold while supplies last, with buyers outside the US and UK covering extra duties and taxes. The reveal came with its own animated store page, complete with mascots like Pinchy the crab and a doorman called Bouncer 305.

The theme is not Vice City neon for its own sake. The whole box is built around Macca the Gator, an in-game Leonida TV show that has already appeared on Jason and Lucia’s t-shirts in trailer material, which makes the set a piece of world building as much as merchandise.

Put the mirror, the spoon and the razor blade next to each other and the joke writes itself. TweakTown read the trio exactly the way the internet did, as a wink at Vice City’s signature commodity, and the pieces double as callbacks to Rockstar merchandise from the 2000s.

The sleeper item is the poster. The front carries Macca the Gator artwork, but the back is the first official glimpse of the Leonida map, drawn in the cartoonised style Rockstar has used for physical maps since the GTA V blueprint days. Fans immediately noticed the coastline differs at the edges from the photogrammetry map assembled from leaks, and Rockstar’s store page briefly used a version of the artwork with location labels still visible, naming areas like Sand Bars and Crude Islands, before the image was replaced with a scrubbed one, as reported by Dexerto.

Rockstar has a long tradition of hiding hints on physical maps, and shipping the first official map fragment on the back of a poster in a $400 merchandise box, two months before launch, is exactly the kind of move that tradition predicts. When the leaked photos showed a circular recess, the community read it as a disc tray and hoped for a physical edition. The official listing settles it: there is no game in the box, not on disc, not as a code, and the circular recess belongs to collectibles like the glass mirror rather than any media. The standard boxed release remains a code in a box, and GTA 6 still has no disc of any kind.

That makes this one of the most expensive collector’s editions a major game has shipped without the game itself, a point most coverage led with. The precedent cuts both ways: the Red Dead Redemption 2 collector’s box also shipped gameless and still sold through, and Rockstar clearly expects this one to do the same.

This article originally covered the story as an unverified leak, and the leak aged remarkably well. On September 9, an X account named Alexi0982 posted photos from inside Unique Services Group, a packaging plant in Mexico, showing glossy black boxes with Vice City Leonida lettering, then deleted everything. The poster described a box larger than a PlayStation 5 console box, divided into sections, more colourful inside than out, with a circular recess, and said production ran until November. Metro and Beebom covered the deletion, fan accounts archived the images, and a noisy corner of the community dismissed the whole thing as AI.

Every checkable claim held up: the box, the lettering that matched the Ultimate Edition’s Mac the Dinosaur design, the sections, the recess and the timeline. The one thing the worker could not see from the production line was the price.
