The Deleted NPC Leak Everyone Called Fake Keeps Lining Up With Rockstar’s Own Interviews

+5 XP for Sharing

A burner account posted GTA 6 NPC details in April 2025, told everyone to screenshot the thread and vanished. Eighteen months later, named Rockstar developers keep describing the same systems, though the leak’s core claims remain officially unconfirmed.

Quick take
  • The deleted post described weekday beach crowds, NPCs with separate work and beach outfits, and tourists from San Fierro and Algonquin, all part of a second phase of NPC development.
  • Rob Nelson has since told Bloomberg the NPC projections were horrifying and that Rockstar opened a Los Angeles studio for the work, while Rupert Humphries and James Horton detailed the LA writing teams in Love magazine.
  • The weekday crowd rhythms and event tourists are still unconfirmed, and Rockstar has never acknowledged the post, so the label stays at unverified until November 19.

What the Post Actually Said

On April 19, 2025, a brand-new Reddit account called Breadfruitlcy5141 published a thread titled I worked on GTA VI; here are some insights on its design, then deleted the account and disappeared. The poster claimed to have spent under a year on the game, mostly around character design during a stretch when it overlapped with world design, and was careful to discuss only systems they said they had seen. Screen Rant and others covered the claims at the time, with every appropriate caveat attached.

The specifics were unusually concrete. Crowd density at beaches and downtown would shift with the day of the week, with Mondays quiet and weekends packed, and the trailer crowds described as weekend traffic. Some NPCs would exist only on certain days or in certain windows. One design was labelled NPC_0000172 beach attire with a matching NPC_0000172 work attire, the same person in swimwear at the weekend and business clothes Monday to Friday. Tourist designs carried labels like Vespucci Beach Tourist, San Fierro Tourist and Algonquin Tourist, visitors from other GTA cities whose origins would surface through dialogue. In-game events and concerts would fill streets with tourists in branded shirts. All of it, the poster said, belonged to a second phase of development expanding an NPC framework Rockstar already had, and none of it was getting cut. The thread ended with an instruction: bookmark and screenshot this so you can say he was right.

Why Everyone Called It Fake

The dismissal was reasonable. A burner account with no history, no documents, no screenshots, deleted within days, describing exactly the features fans already wanted: that is the standard anatomy of a fabricated leak. Writers at GamingBible went further and argued the post read like generated text, pointing at its detached tone and at reference YouTube channels they could not find. The thread survived only as screenshots and reposts, which is usually where stories like this end.

Then Rockstar Started Describing the Same Machine

What changed is eighteen months of named, on-record interviews. In the Bloomberg Businessweek cover story, co-studio head Rob Nelson said the projections for the NPC work were horrifying, and that Rockstar opened a new Los Angeles studio with writers, directors and producers largely dedicated to filling Leonida with people, work that fed into the delay from May to November. A second phase of development built to expand an existing NPC framework is a fair summary of exactly that. The LA office had already surfaced in August, when Rockstar told Dazed the studio works almost entirely on NPCs and Nelson described new tools and pipelines for the most detailed and varied character population the studio has ever built.

The corroboration kept arriving from different directions. The New York Times reported over 600,000 hand-finished NPC animations, against roughly 55,000 in GTA 5, and an LA team of writers, directors and producers working on the game’s people. In Love magazine this month, narrative SVP Rupert Humphries described a specific team of pedestrian dialogue writers in LA, and open-world writing director James Horton said Rockstar started a new LA writing team with pedestrian dialogue as its sole focus, insisting that no one you meet is an extra, everyone is the main character of their own story. Stylist Jillian Carr told Dazed that Vice City is shaped by a constant flow of tourists. Even the research claims track: Rockstar has described a decade of Miami field trips, meetings with ex-criminals, police and club promoters, which sits comfortably beside the post’s claim that bodycam channels and Florida street videos were used as a second layer of reference.

The Grain of Salt That Remains

None of this makes the post verified. Rockstar has never acknowledged it, the headline features, crowds that thin out on a Monday, the suit-and-swimsuit double life, remain unconfirmed, and the generated-text objection was never answered. The poster also said their knowledge was at least ten months old when they wrote it, putting it at mid-2024 or earlier, and Phil Hooker told Bloomberg the team was still changing things in the final months. Development reality can retire any of these systems quietly.

But the direction of travel is one way. Every interview since has made the post look more plausible, not less, and the NPC systems Rockstar is willing to describe keep landing next to the ones it allegedly leaked. In 25 days the game itself settles it. If Vice City’s beach really is quieter on a Monday, one deleted burner account gets the strangest told-you-so in the history of GTA leaks.
