Sony Has Two GTA 6 DualSense Controllers Coming, and Only One of Them Needs an Alarm

Sony did it at State of Play, not Rockstar. On September 3 the PlayStation Blog posted a first look at two limited-edition DualSense controllers built around GTA 6: a Black Limited Edition and a White Limited Edition, each carrying official Grand Theft Auto VI branding and palm-tree details moulded straight into the plastic. Sony calls the finish shimmering and colour-shifting, a mix of Vice City sunset and neon glow.

The two pads are pitched as two times of day. The white one is Vice City at daybreak, white sand and pastel sky, the Ocean Beach morning before the crowds arrive. The black one is the nightlife edition, all neon and wet tarmac. Both arrive on November 19, launch day, and Sony’s copy leans on the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers that GTA 6 uses on PS5, the same feature set the store page has been advertising since the performance details first surfaced.

Here is the part nobody in the reveal threads noticed. Line the controller up against the game and the pad wins on price in every single region. The recommended retail price is $84.99 in the US, EUR 84.99 in Europe, GBP 74.99 in the UK and JPY 12,480 in Japan, which Sony lists as including tax. Our price guide has the Standard Edition of GTA 6 at $79.99, EUR 79.99, GBP 69.99 and JPY 9,800. On the listed numbers, a Japanese buyer pays more for the controller than for the Ultimate Edition.

None of that makes the pads bad value by DualSense standards. It is simply a funny thing to say out loud: the accessory costs more than the eighty hour game it is decorated with.

Two controllers, two very different shopping trips. The White Limited Edition ships in limited quantities globally through direct.playstation.com and participating retailers, so if it sells through at one shop you have others to try. The Black Limited Edition is the tricky one. Sony is selling it exclusively through direct.playstation.com in the countries where that store operates, and only through select retailers everywhere else. One shop, one window, limited stock. If you want the nightlife pad, that is the alarm you set.

The window itself opens on September 10 at 10am local time. In the US that means 7am PT and 10am ET. Direct store pre-orders open at 10am local in the UK, France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg, and Portugal goes through the hardware section of playstation.com instead. Eligible direct orders get free launch-day delivery, which matters when the alternative is a courier queue on launch day.

So who should actually bother? A PS5 owner who wants the black pad should be logged in before 10am with payment details saved. Anyone happy with the white one can wait for a retailer listing. Xbox players get nothing here, and Sony hinted at nothing else.

Rockstar launches always came with stuff. GTA 5 shipped in 2013 with a Special Edition, a Collector’s Edition and a PlayStation 3 hardware bundle. Red Dead Redemption 2 got a PS4 Pro bundle. This time the game itself has only two editions and no Collector’s tier at all, so the physical side of the launch is coming through Sony rather than through Rockstar, and the controllers are the first piece of it.

That fits how this launch has been run. Every public demo has played on PS5, every second of public footage has come off Sony hardware, and the marketing partnership sits with PlayStation. A pair of premium pads is the low-risk opening move. The bigger one is a console bundle, which our console shortage coverage argued would be the first thing to vanish from shelves if it ever appears. Nothing of the kind has been announced.

The pads themselves are a pleasant surprise: a real, dated, priced object attached to a game whose three year reveal has rationed information ruthlessly. Set the alarm for the black one. Buy the white one at your leisure. Then get back to arguing about frame rates.
