GTA 6 Interiors: How Many Buildings You Can Enter

+5 XP for Sharing

GTA 6 marks enterable buildings blue on the map and renders their floor plans as you approach. Officially there are far more interiors than any previous Rockstar game; the leaked map suggests hundreds, though every count beyond that is still an estimate.

Quick take
  • Kinda Funny’s hands-on preview reports a huge focus on enterable buildings: not everything opens, but way more than before.
  • Blue buildings on the minimap and main map have interiors, grey ones do not, and up close the map draws the actual floor plan.
  • The leaked map shows roughly 180 dots read as interiors, and creator estimates run from 300 confirmed to 1,000 at the ceiling.
  • Named interiors already on camera include a nightclub, a strip club, a diner, an airport lounge, apartments and every gas station.
  • Fully modelled rooms plus parallax tricks make buildings look inhabited from outside, with interiors unloading at distance.

How Many Buildings Actually Open

Start with the only sentence on this subject that comes from a press hands-on. Kinda Funny’s preview: huge focus on enterable buildings, not everything in the world is enterable, but way more than before. That is the official ceiling and floor in one line, and it is deliberately unnumbered. Rockstar has published no interior count, and nobody who sat in those preview sessions has either.

The baselines make “way more” worth taking seriously. One creator who counted personally puts GTA 5 at roughly 5 percent of buildings enterable and Red Dead Redemption 2 at just under 40 percent. Those are fan counts, not Rockstar figures, but they frame the leap. GTA 5’s Los Santos was a city of painted doors. Red Dead’s towns mostly opened. GTA 6’s Vice City is being pitched, by everyone who has touched it, as closer to the second model at many times the scale.

The honest answer to “how many” is therefore a range, and this page keeps the receipts separate: what press saw, what the leaked map suggests, and what creators are guessing. Those are three different grades of evidence. The sections below take them in that order, because the map system, unlike the counts, is confirmed and already visible in footage.

Blue on the Map Means Enterable

GTA 6 tells you which buildings open before you walk to the door. On both the minimap and the main map, a building rendered blue has an interior and a grey one does not. The share of blue varies wildly by district, from around 20 percent of visible buildings up to 50 percent in some areas, per the creator analysis that spotted the system. The minimap itself is now a 3D render of the city, one breakdown jokes it may carry more polygons than the whole of the original Vice City, and the full HUD behaviour lives in the HUD and minimap guide.

The detail that impressed me most sits one zoom level deeper. Walk up to a blue building and the map draws the interior itself, a 3D architectural floor plan rendered inside the building outline, with white squares marking the entrances. That is a dungeon map in a GTA game, and it will matter every time a robbery goes loud and you need the back door. The same analysis flags the one usability catch: blue is hard to read mid-chase, when the whole minimap flashes red and blue with the police lights.

Blue also does not promise the whole building. Skyscrapers read as enterable while likely offering a lobby, a floor or two and a roof deck rather than forty storeys. Our interactive map tracks confirmed interiors as they surface.

The Leaked Map Numbers Game

Every hard number on interior counts comes from leaked material, so every number in this section carries that label. The leaked map from the August wave shows around 150 beige dots plus around 30 green and blue ones, roughly 180 marked locations that the analysis reads as interiors. The colour guesses stack speculation on the leak: beige possibly stores and robbable spots, green possibly mission locations or clubs, since the Jack of Hearts is marked green, blue unknown. A separate leak-era rumour claimed 70 percent of interiors are enterable, or alternatively 700 stores, and even the creator relaying it declines to believe the 70 percent figure.

Leak analysts guess the map’s green dots mark clubs and venues. Places like this are what those guesses are pointing at.Rockstar Games

Combining the leaked dots with what footage has already shown, the same analysis lands on at least 300 interiors as a floor, and offers a ceiling estimate of 400 minimum to 1,000 tops, personally leaning under 1,000. For scale, a fan-made landmark map counts more than 1,800 points of interest across the state; if a third of those opened, that would be 600 interiors. Every figure in this paragraph is an estimate built on a leak, stated by one analyst, and should move the moment Rockstar publishes anything.

What deserves more weight than any single count: the leaked dots, the blue-building system and the press descriptions all point the same direction. Hundreds of interiors, unevenly spread, densest where the money and the missions are.

Named Interiors Already Caught on Camera

The confirmed list is already long enough to sketch the game’s interior priorities. The Extended Look opens inside the Venture apartments in Rockridge, and Jason and Lucia’s own second-floor apartment safehouse appears near the Jack of Hearts nightclub, itself shown from the inside as Lucia drinks on a balcony over the dance floor. A second apartment safehouse turns up in a dress-picking scene. Port Gellhorn’s Delights Cabaret strip club appears with Dre mixing music inside, and Hank’s Waffles, the diner fans first met in the 2022 leak, resurfaces in official footage.

The utility tier is broader. Airports have interiors this time around, a lounge and terminal scene shows one directly. Every gas station opens, per the map analysis. A pay and spray garage interior appears in the Extended Look, a convenience store interior hosts a robbery, an old lady’s apartment stages a scripted escape, a Mega Mundo party fills a corporate interior, and elevators are rideable, potentially with NPC small talk on the way up. Stores you can walk into are, not coincidentally, stores you can rob, and that system belongs to the robbery guide.

Detail, Parallax and Distance Tricks

The other half of the interiors story is buildings you never enter. One breakdown of the preview material puts it plainly: NPC interiors are extremely detailed, and Rockstar uses fully modelled interiors plus parallax techniques so buildings appear to have depth and activity even from outside. The trick shows up in the official website screenshots too, where distant rooms read convincingly, with the analysing creator noting both that it looks good from range and that some duplicate layouts repeat, which is exactly the compromise you would expect at this scale.

Prop density is the tell for a fully modelled room. Nothing in this flat is painted on.Rockstar Games

The performance ledger balances somewhere. The map analysis observes that interiors are detailed enough that only a few load at once, that they unload entirely at distance, and that far windows show reflections precisely so you cannot see the empty room behind the glass. None of that is a complaint. It is the standard machinery of an open world spending its memory where you are standing. The payoff is the impression every hands-on account repeats, there are so many interiors, and the design argument one breakdown makes explicit: more detailed interiors make robberies more believable, because the room you are emptying looks like someone actually worked there.

Open Questions the Footage Leaves

Three gaps remain, and they are worth stating precisely. First, home invasions. Houses out on the islands and keys do not render blue in the footage examined, and the map analyst recalls, with an explicit “I might be misquoting”, a claim that home invasions are not in the game. That is a hedge on top of a secondhand quote, so file it as likely absent, unconfirmed. Second, hostage standoffs inside interiors. The idea comes entirely from the 2022 Hank’s Waffles leak, where police held position outside the diner rather than pushing in. Suggestive, four years old, and confirmed by nothing since. Third, the real count. Between the leak-derived floor of 300 and the speculative ceiling of 1,000 sits an answer only Rockstar has.

The homes we have walked through belong to the leads. Whether anyone else’s front door opens, home invasions included, stays an open question.Rockstar Games

What would change my mind on any of these: one frame of a blue house on a residential street, one press sentence about police entry behaviour, or one official number. Until then the confirmed picture is already the strongest interiors offer this series has made, blue-coded buildings, rendered floor plans and a city that opens where it matters.
