Jason and Lucia's Apartment

The Trailer 2 footage shows Jason and Lucia’s starting apartment in the Leonida Keys, a modest single story home overlooking the water. This is the most likely opening location for the player. The Extended Look confirms it as Jason’s initial safehouse in the Keys, with a basketball hoop in the driveway where Jason shoots hoops in official footage of the house first seen in the leaked basketball clip, and a screenshot of a coffee table laid out with bullets, cash and a pistol under the bamboo blinds seen in an earlier trailer.

Jason and Lucia’s Apartment sits inside Leonida Keys on the Leonida map. The couple also share a second home in the Extended Look, a city apartment in Vice City that is covered below and should not be confused with the Keys house.

The apartment interior shown at length in the Extended Look is not the Keys house. The mapping community places it in Crosstown near the Jack of Hearts, on the second floor of a building that had already appeared in the leaks, and one preview attendee describes it as a story safehouse the pair pick up early, probably in chapter one or two. Most creators read it as Lucia’s apartment: the wallpaper is pink, the decor is described as very girly, and the scene is built around the pair getting ready for an event, with Lucia asking Jason what she should wear. The player can turn lights on and off, open the fridge and pick from a menu of drinks.

The building has a real-world basis. Miami locals recognised the exterior, and by using the historical imagery tool on Google Maps fans found the neighbouring building still standing at roughly the corner of Northeast 19th Street and Northeast 4th Avenue, recreated almost one to one. Lucia’s building itself was demolished around late 2022 or early 2023 after standing abandoned, and its in-game paint scheme matches the real building as it looked in January 2017, before it was repainted that spring, which suggests Rockstar’s reference photography dates from that period. Rockstar shifted the two buildings closer together than they sat in real life.

The fridge doubles as a memory board. It carries older photographs of Jason and Lucia together, pictures of Lucia with friends, post-it notes reminding her to smile, and a Fleeca bank magnet, and creators take the photos as evidence the couple have been together for some time. Items inside, including two beers, a Blitzberry smoothie, E-Cola, Pisswasser and Logger beer and a protein shake, carry icons showing which gauges they refill, such as the eye icon for the slow motion focus ability and a bolt that creators think relates to stamina.

The flat is also packed with GTA relics. Mr Raspberry Jam, Trevor’s teddy bear from GTA V, sits in the background wearing its bow tie. A Cape Catfish postcard carries the GTA V lighthouse, and a Sandy Shores postcard sits beside it. The bikini woman from the original Vice City cover art appears reversed in a picture frame by the TV, a DVD titled Edged sits under the TV, a book called Two Pricks in the Bush lies on the coffee table, a console dashboard shows the logo for Space Monkey 3 Bananas Gone Bad from GTA Online, and a mermaid picture hangs on the wall. Outside, a tiki figure stands by the entrance and a Leonida City Tours bus passes in the street.

The apartment is most often compared to a Florida Keys stilt cottage. Real Keys stilt cottages are wooden homes raised on pilings so storm surge can pass underneath, weathered by decades of salt air and hurricanes.
