Basketball

Basketball went from community wishlist to visible gameplay in the August 2026 leak, which showed Jason dribbling and shooting hoops on the half-court at his waterside Leonida Keys home and earning a Focus stat boost for a made shot.

Overview

Basketball is no longer just a San Andreas throwback fans hope for. The first clip of the August 2026 leak opened at Jason’s waterside home in the Leonida Keys, a location recognizable from Trailer 2, with gym equipment visible on the balcony. Jason hops off the deck, runs past a jet ski, picks up a ball on the half-court and starts shooting hoops. The footage reportedly comes from an old internal build, so details may change before launch, but the activity is clearly real and playable.

How it works

An on-screen tutorial in the leaked clip spells the mechanic out: “To shoot, aim and hold until the rings overlap, then release.” Jason can dribble while walking, shots follow varied arcs, and a made basket plays a coin-like chime and grants a Focus +2% stat boost. The physics carry through too: one shot bounces off the top of the backboard, rolls downhill and floats away in the water, and the whole activity flows in and out of free roam with no menus or loading.

In the series

San Andreas let CJ practice his jump shot on courts in Los Santos, and it stayed the one entry fans cited when asking for basketball back. The leak makes GTA 6 the first game since 2004 to show basketball being played, and this time a made shot feeds a visible character stat instead of being pure flavor.

Trivia

Focus is not a stat from San Andreas or GTA 5, and the leak does not explain what it governs; community guesses range from aiming steadiness to a slow-motion ability. The +2% reward is the clearest evidence yet that GTA 6 builds character stats through activities the way Red Dead Redemption 2 did.
