Basketball

Pick-up basketball is lined up to return for the first time since San Andreas, giving Lucia and Jason a reason to stop at the cracked neighbourhood courts dotted around Vice City and shoot hoops between jobs.

Overview

Basketball was one of the small joys of San Andreas, and the open-air courts visible around Leonida’s neighbourhoods make it a natural fit for a comeback. The pull here is texture rather than reward: a couple of minutes shooting hoops in the heat is the kind of grounded, lived-in detail Rockstar has been leaning into for the whole reveal.

How it works

In San Andreas the loop was simple: walk up to a ball, hold a button to charge a shot, and release at the top of the arc to sink it. A modern version would likely keep that rhythm-and-timing feel, with a free shootaround for practice and the option to play out a short pick-up game against locals for a bit of cash or just bragging rights.

In the series

San Andreas let CJ practise his jump shot on courts in Los Santos, and it is the one entry fans cite when they ask for basketball back. GTA 6 leaning on a Florida setting full of public parks gives the activity an obvious home, even if Rockstar has yet to show it running in gameplay.

Trivia

Basketball is one of several San Andreas hobbies the community keeps a wishlist for, alongside working out and the gym, suggesting Rockstar is mining its most beloved entry for the side content of Leonida.
