The Extended Look Aired as One Episode, So Let’s Grade Every Runtime Leak That Said Otherwise

Correction first, story second. On August 27 the Extended Look premiered on Netflix as exactly one episode, 26 minutes and 48 seconds long, with the YouTube release following the same evening. No episode two. No episode three. The three-part structure this article originally treated as the leak that made everything add up simply never existed.

We are leaving this page up rather than quietly deleting it, because the episode saga is a useful case study in how convincing wrong leaks can look. What follows is the original evidence, plus the scorecard the premiere made possible.

On August 13, Netflix Portugal’s page for Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look briefly rendered three episode rows where a single video should be: 23:37, 24:41 and 18:29, a combined 66 minutes and 47 seconds. Reddit user Rsodyyy caught the screenshot before the rows vanished, and it did the rounds on r/GTA6 within hours.

The case for taking it seriously looked reasonable at the time: the rows appeared on Netflix’s own storefront rather than a datamined manifest, the runtimes were oddly specific for filler, and the listing got scrubbed fast. All three points were true. None of them mattered. Specific-looking placeholder data is still placeholder data, and one regional backend hiccup does not need Rockstar’s permission to happen.

Three runtime leaks circulated in the week before the premiere, and this site compiled them side by side at the time. Now the real number exists, so the table gets a results column.

The irony writes itself. The scrappiest leak, a glitched playback bar, beat the most official-looking one, an episode list on Netflix’s own page. The lesson is not that leaks are worthless. It is that where a leak appears tells you nothing about whether it is true, and the leaks that look most like insider structure are often just infrastructure noise.

Our original read argued the three-episode structure was the one version of events where the conflicting runtimes stopped contradicting each other, with a support agent quoting one episode’s length and the bigger numbers covering the set. Tidy theory. Wrong premise. The runtimes contradicted each other because two of the three were garbage, which is the boring explanation this site should have weighted harder.

The showcase itself made the episode question irrelevant anyway. One 26:48 cut, spliced from cutscenes and gameplay, and Take-Two’s Strauss Zelnick has since called it merely one of the hors d’oeuvres with appetisers, main courses and desserts still to follow. Whatever the marketing calendar holds between now and November 19, it will not be episodes two and three of a series that never was.
