The estate is a direct callback to Tommy Vercetti's Starfish Island mansion from GTA Vice City (2002). Starfish Island itself was modeled on Star Island, the guarded Biscayne Bay enclave whose walled compounds have housed celebrities from Al Capone's era onward.

In the 2002 game, Tommy Vercetti seizes a mansion on Starfish Island from Ricardo Diaz and hangs his name on it. An estate still carrying the Vercetti name two decades later is the strongest continuity wink Rockstar has given the new Vice City so far.
