Gopher Tortoise

Several community wildlife lists carry a land turtle for Grand Theft Auto VI, separate from the sea turtle seen swimming in Trailer 1. None of them ties the sighting to a frame or screenshot anyone can check, which is why this entry wears an expected badge rather than borrowing confidence the evidence does not support.

If a land turtle is in the game, the gopher tortoise is barely a guess. It is Florida’s only native tortoise, common enough across the state’s sandy uplands that road signs warn drivers about it.

Real gopher tortoises are ecosystem engineers. Their burrows shelter owls, snakes, frogs and hundreds of other species, which is exactly the sort of interlocking detail Rockstar’s team describes when it talks about recreating Florida’s ecosystem by biome. A tortoise trundling across a scrub road in the Leonida backcountry would also be a very Rockstar traffic obstacle.
