Overview
No bear appears in any official GTA VI material. Not in the trailers, not in the Extended Look, not in the screenshots, and not by name in Game Informer’s Issue 382 cover story. This page exists because the Black Bear tops nearly every community expectation list, and because the case for it is genuinely strong, but the honest label is expected rather than confirmed.
The rock that fooled everyone
The bear almost got confirmed once. When Rockstar released its six Mount Kalaga National Park screenshots, sharp-eyed fans flagged a dark shape in the upper corner of one image as a bear, and the GTAForums fauna thread debated it. The thread’s own cataloguers later walked it back: on closer inspection the shape is a rock. PC Gamer’s feature on the community’s frame-by-frame wildlife census retold the episode as a lesson in how carefully the list is policed.
Why it stays on the list
Three things keep the bear penned in. Rockstar bills Mount Kalaga as prime hunting country, and a southern pine forest without black bears would be a strange omission for a studio recreating Florida’s ecology down to its invasive toads. The confirmed species count of more than 170 leaves enormous unnamed room. And Red Dead Redemption 2 shipped detailed black bear behaviour Rockstar could draw on. If the Legendary tier of trackable animals means what players hope, a Kalaga bear is the community’s favourite candidate.
