The American Alligator is a reptile species featured in Grand Theft Auto VI's recreation of the state of Leonida. The in-game animal is modelled on the real-world Alligator mississippiensis.

The American Alligator has been visually confirmed in official Rockstar trailer footage or screenshots, placing it among the higher-confidence entries on the GTA VI wildlife list.

The American Alligator has been documented in the official Rockstar trailer cuts and screenshots released so far, and the Extended Look material added its most striking appearances yet.

A batch of official screenshots released alongside the Extended Look shows a run-down RV park in the Everglades where the local hunters keep alligators. Preview breakdowns picked out a man with a rifle, another crawling on the ground with a gator, a cage, dogs, a smaller alligator in the grass and a double-barrelled shotgun close to hand. The centrepiece is a live alligator with its jaws taped shut, strung up and used as a punching bag while the men around it laugh. Commentators read the group as alligator hunters and noted that gator hunting is something Floridians really do, so the scene points to hunter NPCs in the Grassrivers rather than just ambient wildlife.

The alligator is also Leonida’s mascot. Maka the Alligator, introduced in Rockstar’s official screenshots as a mascot for the state, appears on a T-shirt Jason wears, and in the Extended Look a statue of Maka can be seen wearing Tommy Vercetti’s shirt from GTA Vice City, an Easter egg first flagged by community frame-by-frame breakdowns. Trailer 2 had already shown an iguana in the same Vercetti shirt, so the reptile-in-Tommy’s-shirt gag is becoming a running joke.
