Leonida Keys Safehouse

The Leonida Keys safehouse, widely called Jason’s house, is the weathered stilt home featured across the second GTA 6 trailer and revisited in the Extended Look. Set in Key Lento out in the Leonida Keys, it is Jason’s initial safehouse, the worn coastal property where the story’s opening chapters settle in. Preview coverage of the Extended Look describes the footage of Jason shooting hoops here as taking place at his initial safehouse in the Keys, and a separate interior shot of ammunition, cash and a pistol laid out beneath a coffee table, with bamboo blinds in the background, is the same house.

Rather than a purchase, this safehouse comes attached to a relationship: the property belongs to drug runner Brian Heder, who lets Jason live there rent-free in exchange for help running his operation. That fits what Rob Nelson told creators at the preview event, that safehouses cannot be bought in GTA 6 because Jason and Lucia are on the run, so every base the pair uses comes through the story rather than a property menu.

Brian Heder is no charity. In return for the roof over Jason’s head, Jason collects payments from Heder’s other tenants and handles work for the business, the kind of low-level enforcement that pulls him deeper into Leonida’s underworld. It is a classic Rockstar setup: a free home with strings that tighten as the story moves.

After Lucia is released from prison she appears to move in with Jason, and the two are shown living together from that point on. The Keys safehouse becomes the shared anchor for the couple at the centre of GTA 6.

The headline feature is the basketball hoop. The Extended Look shows Jason playing basketball in the driveway of the house, hitting a fadeaway jumper, which marks the first playable basketball in a GTA game since San Andreas. Creators who attended the preview describe it as a light mini-game rather than anything approaching NBA 2K, and one suggests basketball may be among the activities that give a temporary focus boost, though that link is not confirmed.

As a safehouse, the Key Lento home covers the usual essentials of saving progress, changing outfits and regrouping between jobs, and GTA 6 safehouses go further than earlier games. Previews compare them to the camps of Red Dead Redemption 2, with lights, fridges and food that can be picked up and eaten for stat boosts, the option to trim or shave hair (new styles still need a barber), cash deposits, and personal vehicles kept at the property. Jason and Lucia can share a safehouse and run on separate schedules. Trailer glimpses of Jason working on the property have also fuelled talk of home repair or renovation mechanics, though nothing on that front is confirmed yet.

The Keys setting ties this safehouse to the smuggling-route flavour of the Leonida Keys, the sun-bleached island chain that the community already links to drug-running crews. A free starting home owned by a trafficker sets the tone for the pair’s early hustle.

The driveway basketball clip was one of the most widely shared pieces of leaked footage in the week before the Extended Look, showing Jason outside his house shooting hoops. Rockstar then put the same scene in the official video, and several creators suspect it was added late as a direct answer to the leak.
