PEGI Published Its Full GTA 6 Rating Description, Then Pulled the Page. Here Is What It Said

+5 XP for Sharing

PEGI published its GTA 6 entry on 2 October with the most detailed written description the board has ever attached to a Rockstar game, covering dismemberment, carryable drugs and paid private dances, then pulled the page the same day without a word of explanation.

Quick take
  • PEGI published its GTA 6 rating on 2 October with an unusually detailed written description, and the page was pulled again the same day.
  • The description covered realistic bloody violence including decapitation and dismemberment, a step past the brief descriptor lines PEGI pages normally carry.
  • The pulled text confirms drugs as a carryable inventory item usable at any time, and night clubs where paid private dances allow physical interaction.
  • The in-game purchases line reads as the Ultimate Edition upgrade path, since Strauss Zelnick told shareholders in September the launch carries no recurrent consumer spending.
  • Neither PEGI nor Rockstar has explained the removal, and the version of the page that eventually returns is the next thing worth checking.

The Page That Went Up and Came Down

Europe’s ratings board published its GTA 6 entry on Friday 2 October, a day after the store pages switched from Rating Pending to final ratings. The PEGI 18 itself surprised nobody. What stood out was the written description underneath it, which went far past the brief descriptor lines PEGI pages normally carry and read like a content audit of the finished game. The page was live long enough to be captured in full, and screenshots of the complete text had spread across the community within hours, which means the takedown removed nothing.

Neither PEGI nor Rockstar has said a word about why. A rating page going up is routine, every game gets one. A rating page coming down the same day, carrying that much specific gameplay detail, is the part worth examining, because ratings boards do not usually retract their own paperwork.

What the Pulled Description Actually Said

The capture preserves the full text, and it is worth reading in PEGI’s own words rather than anyone’s summary. On violence, the description calls the game bloody with a high degree of realism, with certain weapons able to cause greater damage such as detailed decapitation and dismemberment. That is a step past GTA 5’s injury detail and closer to Red Dead Redemption 2. The outline section also states the game is played in third person as either Jason Duval or Lucia Caminos, two criminals pulled into a conspiracy following a failed robbery.

Drug use is described as frequent and prominent, with the player able to partake with others and to use illegal drugs directly from their inventory. Most notably, the text says cocaine can be carried by the player and snorted directly from their hand at any time, a first for the series as a player mechanic. The sexual content paragraph lists nudity, scenes of intercourse and occasional scenes of sexual fetishes, and states that in various night clubs the player can pay for private dances during which the game allows moving their hands onto the dancers, which lines up with what September’s leak wave already claimed about club interiors.

The remaining lines fill out the picture. Domestic animals can be harmed but do not produce the same injury detail as human characters, which tells you how the gore system treats the 170-species wildlife roster. Discriminatory language is heard in the TV shows and on the radio channels, where the series has always kept its satire. And the game offers optional in-game purchases while remaining fully playable without them, a line the next section takes apart.

The In-Game Purchases Line Is Smaller Than It Looks

The one line with business implications is the purchases one. On 17 September, Take-Two chairman Strauss Zelnick told the company’s annual shareholder meeting that GTA 6 launches as a single-player experience on two platforms and that no recurrent consumer spending is attached to that launch. Set the two statements side by side and the PEGI line stops reading like microtransactions. The obvious candidate is the in-game upgrade from the Standard tier to the Ultimate Edition, a one-time purchase rather than a spending loop, and the description’s own note that the game is fully playable without buying anything points the same way.

What Would Actually Settle This

The entry has to come back, because PEGI territories do not ship major releases without a public rating, and two versions of that return are worth telling apart. If the page returns with the same written description, the pull was about timing, and the text stands as the fullest official account of the game’s content so far. If it returns trimmed to standard descriptors, the difference between the two versions shows exactly which disclosures somebody objected to, and that becomes its own story.

Our age rating guide tracks every board’s verdict in one place, from the ESRB descriptor list to the regional 21-plus classifications, and already carries the published-then-pulled wrinkle.
