On 1 October Rockstar replaced the Rating Pending badge on its site and both console stores with final age ratings: ESRB Mature 17+ with a full descriptor list, PEGI 18 in the UK and Europe, R18+ in Australia and adult classifications across further territories.
- Rockstar’s site and the PlayStation and Xbox store pages switched from Rating Pending to final ratings on 1 October 2026.
- The ESRB Mature 17+ listing cites blood and gore, intense violence, mature humor, nudity, strong language, strong sexual content, and use of drugs and alcohol.
- PEGI 18 covers the UK and Europe, and the listings also carry an in-game purchases notice, an odd fit with Take-Two’s no-recurrent-spending-at-launch line.
- Australia confirms R18+ after a leaked advert briefly printed a non-existent X18+ label, and the Australian and New Zealand boards both name sex scenes.
- TechTimes reads the missing Users Interact label as another sign GTA 6 launches as a single-player game, though Rockstar has not said so itself.
Rating Pending Is Gone Everywhere That Matters
For months the only evidence of a GTA 6 rating was a Sony marketing email, while Take-Two’s own materials said not yet rated. That gap closed on 1 October 2026. Rockstar’s official website and the PlayStation and Xbox store pages all replaced the Rating Pending badge with a completed ESRB Mature 17+ certificate, and the rating now appears on the game’s social banners as well. Seven weeks before launch, the formal paperwork is done.
The ESRB listing cites blood and gore, intense violence, mature humor, nudity, strong language, strong sexual content, and use of drugs and alcohol. That is the full house of adult descriptors, in line with every mainline entry since the original games, and importantly it is Mature 17+ rather than Adults Only, so there is no platform or retail complication.

The Regional Picture: PEGI 18, R18+ and a Corrected X18+
The United Kingdom and Europe carry PEGI 18. Australia’s R18+ classification lists drug use, high impact violence and sex scenes, and it arrives with a small comedy of errors attached: a leaked Australian advert briefly printed X18+, a label that does not exist for games, before being corrected. New Zealand’s R18 adds sex scenes, nudity and offensive language, and the Saudi and UAE boards show a 21-plus badge. France and further territories have followed with their own adult classifications.
The Australian and New Zealand descriptors are the most specific of the set, and both name sex scenes outright. That wording tells you what the boards saw, though as Vice notes, it does not by itself make GTA 6 more explicit than its predecessors, whose content earned similar language.

Two Oddities: In-Game Purchases and the Missing Interact Label
Two details in the fine print carry more information than the headline rating. The first is an in-game purchases notice attached to the listings, flagged by Twisted Voxel among others. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has said the initial launch carries no recurrent consumer spending, so the notice most plausibly covers what comes later rather than day one, but the two statements sit awkwardly side by side and nobody official has reconciled them.
The second is an absence. TechTimes points out that the ESRB certificate carries no Users Interact label, which GTA 5’s rating had for its online mode. On its reading, the certificate describes a single-player-only launch, which matches the continuing silence around GTA 6 Online. That is an inference from paperwork, not an announcement, and it would stop being true the moment an online mode is rated separately.
Why Ratings Day Matters Beyond the Badge
Ratings are assigned to finished or near-finished content, which is why the community immediately read the switch as a content-complete signal on the road to 19 November. That reading is plausible rather than proven, and we treat it as community interpretation. What is certain is more mundane and more useful: parents now have the formal answer, and it is the same one the series has carried for two decades. GTA 6 is for adults.

Our age rating guide holds the full breakdown of every board, every descriptor and what each one means for younger players, and it is being updated to reflect the official assignments.
