Reports say Rockstar has tested GTA 6 on Switch 2, but a test build is not a port. Here is what each source is actually claiming and why a launch-day version is not on the table
- Two separate leakers say Rockstar has tested GTA 6 on Nintendo Switch 2, but neither has confirmed a release is planned
- A source who claimed a launch-day Switch 2 version already lost a public bet after no announcement arrived by May
- Rockstar has quietly tested past games on Wii U and the original Switch without ever shipping them, which is the honest baseline
- GTA 6 is officially confirmed only for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S at launch on November 19, 2026
What the Leakers Actually Said
Rockstar Games has reportedly tested GTA 6 on Nintendo Switch 2, but no source has confirmed the experimental version will ever be released. Reece Reilly, known publicly as Kiwi Talkz, said during a recent interview that Rockstar has tested the game on Nintendo’s current hardware and that he has heard further whispers about a Switch 2 build from multiple people.
His information stops short of confirming an active port. GTA 6 is still officially announced only for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no PC edition on the launch schedule. Testing a game on different hardware is a normal part of development and does not mean a finished product is on the way.

// What each source is actually claiming
The three public claims about GTA 6 on Switch 2 do not carry equal weight. One of them has already been settled by a public bet.
| Source | Claim | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Kiwi Talkz (Reece Reilly) | Rockstar has tested GTA 6 on Switch 2 hardware | Repeated on record, unconfirmed by Rockstar |
| NateTheHate | Rockstar made an effort to test GTA 6 on Switch 2 | Corroborates the test, warns tests often lead nowhere |
| Third-party leaker | Switch 2 version would launch alongside PS5 and Xbox | Lost a public bet after May passed with no announcement |
A Test Build Is Not the Same as a Confirmed Port
Reilly has been explicit that he knows the game has been tested on Switch 2, but he has never received direct confirmation from anyone inside Rockstar that the company intends to release it. He treated an earlier claim about a launch-day Switch 2 version with considerable skepticism, made a public bet that Rockstar would not announce the port before May, and won when no announcement arrived.
The important part is the pattern behind the pattern. Rockstar reportedly tested GTA 5 on Wii U and Red Dead Redemption 2 on the original Switch. Neither game was ever released for those systems. Development tests exist to answer engineering questions, not to draft a shipping schedule, and the studio has repeatedly used them to decide against a port rather than in favour of one.
GTA 6 Would Need Serious Technical Compromises
Nintendo Switch 2 uses a custom NVIDIA processor and can output up to 4K resolution at 60 frames per second when docked, but those numbers describe the console’s ceiling rather than what every game can actually deliver. GTA 6 is expected to place enormous pressure on the CPU through its traffic simulation, NPC density, physics systems, environmental detail and large open world.
A Switch 2 build would almost certainly require substantial reductions to population density, traffic volume, draw distance, environmental detail and the number of AI-driven events running at the same time. Dropping the resolution eases the graphical workload, but it does not solve the CPU bottleneck that a Rockstar open world creates.

A Switch 2 Port Could Affect Other GTA 6 Versions
Every additional platform costs developers, technical artists, testers and optimization specialists. Rockstar is already preparing GTA 6 for three current-generation launch platforms while managing the future of GTA Online and the eventual PC edition. Adding a Switch 2 build to that pipeline is not a small internal favour.
Reilly suggested that assigning people to Switch 2 could come at the expense of the PC port or GTA Online, and he doubts Rockstar would outsource the project because that would widen the group of people with access to sensitive code and unfinished content. A later release, after the main console launch, would give the company more room to optimize without dragging another platform into the critical schedule.
Is GTA 6 Coming to Switch 2?

GTA 6 is not currently confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2. Reports indicate Rockstar has tested the game on the system, but a test only establishes that the company investigated the possibility.
The reported build could become a later port, remain an internal technical experiment, or be abandoned because of performance and resource requirements. Until Rockstar or Nintendo announces it, GTA 6 remains officially scheduled only for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026.
