Newzoo pegs GTA 6 for 51 million launch-week copies and $4.5 billion in revenue, calling it the strongest pre-order start it has ever recorded
- Newzoo forecasts about 51 million copies and $4.5 billion in global sales during GTA 6 launch week
- GTA 6 reportedly generated about $260 million in worldwide digital pre-order spending in its first week
- These are estimates from market research modelling, not confirmed sales from Rockstar or Take-Two
- Full range across scenarios lands between 37 million and 60 million copies
GTA 6 Pre-Orders Reportedly Generated $260 Million in One Week
Newzoo estimates that GTA 6 generated approximately $180 million in digital pre-order spending across the United States and Europe's five largest gaming markets during the final week of June. The five European countries included in the analysis were the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
Those six markets represent approximately 69% of GTA 5's lifetime console player base, according to the methodology explained by Newzoo. Applying that geographical distribution to the initial $180 million figure produces an estimated worldwide total of around $260 million for GTA 6's first week of pre-orders.
The calculation does not mean Rockstar has officially confirmed $260 million in sales. It is a global estimate created from Newzoo's market data and the historical distribution of GTA 5 players. Nevertheless, the research company describes it as the strongest opening week for a pre-order campaign that it has recorded.

How Newzoo Reached the 51 Million Sales Estimate
Newzoo compared GTA 6 with three common pre-order patterns: an original game with no established audience, a sequel carrying uncertainty over its performance, and a proven sequel that buyers already understand. The company believes GTA 6 most closely follows the third pattern because of the series' established formula, enormous audience and the long-term popularity of GTA 5.
Under that model, the opening week of pre-orders would represent approximately 5.8% of the revenue accumulated by the end of GTA 6's launch week. Starting with the estimated $260 million opening and applying that sales curve produces a launch-week revenue forecast of approximately $4.5 billion.
Newzoo converted that revenue into roughly 51 million copies using an assumed average selling price of $88. The average accounts for customers choosing different editions rather than every buyer paying the same price. This makes the 51 million figure a modelled estimate rather than a confirmed number of orders already placed.

The Forecast Ranges From 37 Million to 60 Million Copies
Newzoo also tested GTA 6 against more conservative and more heavily front-loaded pre-order patterns. Across those scenarios, the company estimates that launch-week revenue could fall between approximately $3.3 billion and $5.2 billion.
At the lower end, GTA 6 would generate around $3.3 billion and sell approximately 37 million copies during its opening week. The central projection suggests $4.5 billion and 51 million copies, while the most aggressive scenario reaches approximately $5.2 billion and close to 60 million copies.
// Launch-week scenarios
Newzoo modelled three pre-order patterns for GTA 6. The central case is the 51 million number quoted in every headline. The others show how wide the range actually is.
| Scenario | Estimated launch-week revenue | Estimated copies |
|---|---|---|
| Lower projection | $3.3 billion | 37 million |
| Central projection | $4.5 billion | 51 million |
| Upper projection | $5.2 billion | Around 60 million |
Even the lowest estimate would place GTA 6 among the largest entertainment launches ever recorded. The range also shows why the central 51 million figure should not be treated as a guaranteed result, especially while several months remain before release.
GTA 6 Could Outpace Rockstar's Previous Launches
For comparison, GTA 5 shipped almost 29 million copies during its first six weeks, while Red Dead Redemption 2 shipped more than 17 million copies in its first 13 days. Newzoo's central forecast would have GTA 6 surpassing both figures within seven days.
The comparison is not exact because reported shipments, consumer purchases and modelled digital sales are different measurements. GTA 6 is also launching into a much larger digital market than the one GTA 5 entered in 2013, allowing Rockstar to accept huge numbers of orders without producing and distributing the same quantity of physical copies.

Whether GTA 6 reaches 37 million, 51 million or the upper estimate of approximately 60 million copies will not be known until Rockstar or Take-Two releases official sales data. For now, the clearest conclusion is that its pre-order campaign has opened at a pace that Newzoo has not previously recorded.
