Overview

The Duke 556 is an assault rifle in Grand Theft Auto VI, and the most cleanly confirmed weapon name in the game so far: during the Extended Look’s office shootout, Jason moves over a rifle on the floor and the pickup prompt reads Duke 556 Assault Rifle in plain text. No frame-by-frame detective work required.

The manufacturer is the interesting part. Duke Arms Company shares its name and logo with a firearms maker from the Red Dead universe, where Red Dead Online’s Duke 1853 Navy Revolver carries the same brand. GTA Wiki notes this makes Duke the first Red Dead company canonically adapted into the GTA universe, and both versions read as stand-ins for Colt.

Appearances

Named on screen at the 25:08 mark of the Extended Look, during the nighttime office fight where Jason and Lucia shoot their way through a corporate floor. The rifle analysis site Rifle Configurator calls the pickup prompt the clearest weapon confirmation in the showcase. Duke Arms branding also appears on other rifles across official screenshots, suggesting a full product line rather than a single model.

Trivia

The 556 designation follows the 5.56mm calibre convention used by real AR-pattern rifles, another sign GTA VI is naming its guns the way Red Dead Redemption 2 did. The community expects it to sit alongside the leak-era Assault Rifle and Carbine Rifle entries, though how Rockstar reconciles branded and generic names in the final arsenal is still unknown.

Real-world basis
AR-15 family
The AR-pattern receiver, straight magazine and front-sight profile place it in the AR-15 family, the standard template for 5.56mm rifles.
