GTA 6 on PC in Q1 2027: Four Sources Back the Fastest Rockstar Port in Decades

+5 XP for Sharing

GamesBeat says four industry sources confirm Rockstar plans a PC release of GTA 6 in the first quarter of 2027, a few months after console launch. Nothing is announced, but the window lands exactly where an unnamed platform extension has been sitting in Take-Two’s fiscal calendar since May.

Quick take
  • GamesBeat reported on October 13 that Rockstar plans a GTA 6 PC release in the first quarter of 2027, citing four industry sources who requested anonymity.
  • Rockstar did not respond to a request for comment, and the only confirmed platforms remain PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19.
  • Take-Two’s May earnings call listed one unnamed platform extension inside a fiscal year ending March 31, 2027, exactly where a Q1 PC launch would land.
  • GTA 5 made PC players wait about 19 months and Red Dead Redemption 2 about 13, so Q1 2027 would be the fastest PC turnaround for a mainline GTA since the series went 3D.

Four Sources and Unusually Confident Language

GamesBeat published the report on October 13, and the claim is specific: Rockstar plans to release the PC version of GTA 6 in the first quarter of 2027, meaning January, February or March. The outlet says it confirmed the window with four separate industry sources familiar with the studio’s plans, all of whom asked for anonymity to protect business relationships. Rockstar was approached for comment and had not responded by the time the story went live.

Sourcing is what separates this from the usual PC-date noise. GamesBeat has covered the business side of games for years, and four corroborating sources is an unusually deep bench for a story like this, when most platform rumours ride on one. The wording matters too: the outlet says it “confirmed” the plan rather than hedging around a single person familiar with the matter. None of that makes it an announcement. Rockstar has delayed GTA 6 twice already, plans move, and the only platforms with a date remain PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19.

The Platform Extension Hiding in Take-Two’s Calendar

The report lands neatly on top of something Take-Two told investors back in May. On the earnings call for its fiscal 2027, the company listed six more titles for the year: two mobile games, three sports releases that map to NBA 2K27, PGA Tour 2K27 and WWE 2K27, and one unnamed “platform extension”, the investor term for an existing game arriving on a new platform. Take-Two’s fiscal 2027 ends on March 31, 2027. A January to March PC launch would land inside it, right where that unnamed port is sitting.

CEO Strauss Zelnick has spent years telling investors the quiet part plainly: PC is a great market, and virtually all of the company’s hit titles end up on all platforms over time. The counterargument sits in the same investor materials. The published release table for the fiscal year lists GTA 6 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only, and the 8 to 8.2 billion dollar net bookings guidance arguably leaves little room for a PC launch before April. Then again, Take-Two would never pre-announce a Rockstar port in an investor table, since that is Rockstar’s reveal to make. The next earnings call is set for November 9, and it is now the obvious place to listen for a hint.

Seven Months, Then Nineteen: the Port Gap Story

Rockstar’s own history explains why Q1 2027 reads as shockingly fast. In the PS2 era the gap was about seven months: GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas all reached PC roughly that long after their console debuts, and GTA 4 kept the pace in 2008, landing on PC in December after an April console launch. Then the gap blew out. GTA 5 shipped on PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, took fourteen months to reach PS4 and Xbox One, and only hit PC in April 2015, about nineteen months after the original release. Red Dead Redemption 2 waited thirteen months, from October 2018 to November 2019.

A first-quarter 2027 release would put GTA 6 on PC between six weeks and four and a half months after console launch, the fastest PC turnaround for a mainline entry since the series went 3D. The structural reason is simple. GTA 5 had three console generations to sell across before PC needed to carry anything, while GTA 6 launches on current-gen hardware only. There is no last-gen version to re-release later, so after the consoles, PC is the next big launch Rockstar has.

What a Short Wait Changes

For PC-only players the maths changes completely. The dilemma until now was buying a PS5 or an Xbox for one game or waiting what history suggested could be a year and a half, and a few months is a very different ask. The report also matters for the roleplay scene, which lives entirely on PC. Rockstar bought CFX.re, the team behind the FiveM framework that powers the big GTA 5 roleplay servers, back in August 2023, and none of that investment pays off until GTA 6 has a PC build to run on.

It also fits the wider pattern of PC signals. Earlier this month an Xbox cloud streaming deal briefly convinced the internet that GTA 6 was effectively coming to PC at launch, before an Xbox executive shut the idea down, a saga we covered in the cloud streaming story. GamesBeat also repeats the rumoured development budget north of 2 billion dollars, unverified but a reminder of why reaching every platform quickly matters.
