The GTA 6 Launch Trailer Just Dropped, and Justice Composed the Whole Score

+5 XP for Sharing

Rockstar dropped the GTA 6 launch trailer on October 15 with no teaser: 90 seconds of story footage captured in-game on PS5. The bigger reveal: Justice composed the original score, and their new single features Tame Impala and SZA.

Quick take
  • The launch trailer appeared on October 15 with zero warning, no teaser, no scheduled premiere, just a drop.
  • It runs 1:30 and Rockstar says every frame was captured in-game from a PlayStation 5.
  • Justice are confirmed as composers of the original score, the first time GTA 6’s score has had a credited author.
  • Their standalone single Flower in a Hurricane, featuring Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, lands on GTA VI: The Album.
  • The story setup is now official: an easy score goes wrong and drags Jason and Lucia into a criminal conspiracy stretching across Leonida.
  • Launch is November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with digital preloads from November 12.

No Teaser, No Countdown, Just a Trailer

Rockstar did not announce this one. On Wednesday, October 15, the Grand Theft Auto VI launch trailer simply appeared on YouTube and the official site, 35 days before release, with none of the scheduled-premiere theatre that surrounded the first two trailers and the Netflix debut of the Extended Look. The company that once set a date and time for a one-minute video has reached the stage of the campaign where it can drop the biggest trailer of the year like a routine update, and the view counter passed 200,000 within the first ten minutes anyway.

The clip runs exactly 1:30, the same length as the trailer that started all of this in December 2023, which reads like a deliberate bookend. Rockstar’s note underneath repeats the line it has used all campaign: every frame was captured in-game from a PlayStation 5, and the “plays best on PS5” card from the Sony marketing deal opens the video.

An Easy Score Goes Wrong

This is a story trailer, not a systems showcase, and it comes with the most complete official plot summary Rockstar has published. The description opens on “Vice City, USA” and lays it out: Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them, an easy score goes wrong, and they end up on “the darkest side of the sunniest place in America”, caught in a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida and forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.

The footage fills in character detail the marketing has only hinted at. Jason narrates his army past and makes it clear he did not leave on good terms, which is why steady work will not have him. Lucia calls him from jail in a scene that bridges her prison opening from the first trailer into the present day, and her ankle monitor gets its clearest in-game appearance yet. Around them the trailer runs through a shower scene, a police chase, a swamp sequence, airborne work and what looks like the aftermath of the score that goes wrong, all cut as cinematics rather than the raw gameplay the preview cycle has been documenting.

Justice Wrote the Score

The quiet headline is in the description. The trailer features new music from Justice, and Rockstar calls the French electronic duo the “composers of the original score from Grand Theft Auto VI”. That is the first time the game’s score has been attributed to anyone, and it is a statement hire: two Grammy winners whose whole catalogue sits somewhere between disco, distortion and dread, now underneath an entire open world. Their new standalone single, Flower in a Hurricane, features Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, a collaboration list that reads like a festival poster.

The single also lands on GTA VI: The Album, the 34-track official soundtrack arriving with the game, which is up for pre-save on streaming services and pre-order on vinyl and CD. That adds another confirmed name to a tracklist that is still mostly secret, a rollout we have been tracking since Spotify started leaking names in October.

Thirty-Five Days Out

The timing slots into a week where the campaign went physical. The Hard Rock Stadium takeover ran on Sunday, the Vice City zeppelin reached Florida on Tuesday, and the launch trailer landed on Wednesday, the kind of clip built to run in cinemas and on television through the final month. From here the calendar is short: digital preloads begin November 12, and Grand Theft Auto VI arrives November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
