The Knife surfaced in the September 2022 GTA VI development leak. While not officially confirmed by Rockstar, leaked weapons have historically had a strong correlation with final-game content.

Knife combat resurfaced in the August 2026 gameplay leak, where press coverage described the player equipping a hunting-style knife and using it against NPCs near a canal underpass.
