Overview

The Cortez Hotel is one of the art deco frontages dressing Vice City’s streets in the Extended Look. The logo breakdown that catalogued it reads the sign as Rockstar’s take on the Colony Hotel, the neon Ocean Drive landmark, and notes the studio appears to have moved on from the cruder “Colon Hotel” gag it used for the same building in earlier eras.

The name also happens to match Colonel Juan García Cortez, the yacht-dwelling fixer from the original Vice City. Whether the hotel is a deliberate callback is unconfirmed, but it is exactly the kind of wink Rockstar likes to leave for returning fans.

Real-world basis
The Colony Hotel, Miami Beach
The 1935 art deco landmark whose blue neon sign made it the most photographed facade on Ocean Drive.
