Overview

The Nine-Banded Armadillo appears on the invasive species list Michael Kane gives Game Informer in the Issue 382 cover story, alongside the cane toad, the rhesus macaque, the feral cat and the already-sighted green iguana. No trailer or screenshot has shown one yet.

With more than 30 land mammals promised, the armadillo is the kind of countryside texture Rockstar’s wildlife team says it modelled on purpose.

Real-world context

In the real state, armadillos are roadside regulars across northern and central Florida, digging up gardens and ambling across highways at dusk, so expect them in Leonida’s farm and ranch country rather than on Vice City pavements.

Trivia

Armadillos famously jump straight up when startled, which real Florida drivers know too well. Whether Rockstar simulated the jump is exactly the kind of detail the previews have not answered.

Species basis
Dasypus novemcinctus
An armoured insect-eater that crossed into Florida in the 20th century and now roots through lawns statewide.
