Overview
Snapmatic is the GTA universe’s photo-sharing app, the in-game camera and feed rolled together. The September 2022 leaks showed it back with a rebranded logo, and the Extended Look and press previews confirmed it returns as the main in-game social network, an Instagram-style feed of photos and vertical short-form video. Lucia name-drops Snapmatic in dialogue around the rooftop bar scene that leads into the conversation with Brian and Lori Heder.
There is a twist this time. Jason and Lucia cannot post to Snapmatic because they are fugitives who do not want to leave a digital footprint. Instead they can lurk, follow other accounts and browse general content, including doomscrolling through the feed.
Snapmatic on the phone
The phone is a physical item in GTA VI rather than a HUD overlay, so the camera moves in on Jason’s or Lucia’s hand when they pull it out, and what you see is their phone with their own apps on it. Rob Nelson told a preview attendee that Snapmatic shows the people the character follows, and that posts and videos on the phone can sometimes lead you to places and people out in the world. Rockstar has said working social media feeds will play an important role in the story and its satire of modern America, and previews describe NPC posts you can track down in the world and social media events unfolding in real time as you explore.
Snapmatic sits alongside the other apps shown so far: RydeMe for ride-hailing, WhatUp for messaging, BuckMe for banking and payments, a fitness app that tells you when to work out, and Wa.ink, which pulls up details about vehicles you are looking at.
